Job TitleFire Analyst IV - Seasonal Agency Texas A&M Forest Service Department FRP Associate Director's Office Proposed Minimum Salary$41.83 hourly Job LocationAustin, Texas Job TypeTemporary/Casual Staff (Fixed Term) Job Description The Fire Analyst IV - Seasonal provides advanced fire analysis and support of fire analysis systems, data and infrastructure with the Predictive Services Department. Maintains physical property, including remote automated weather stations to required state and national standards. Provides specialized reports, monitor products for accuracy, troubleshoots and resolves issues. Supports fire response and other agency programs. Interacts with local, state and federal personnel on development of products and systems. Responsibilities: -Provides advanced fire behavior analysis and support of fire analysis systems, data, and infrastructure with the Predictive Services Department. Provides specialized reports and troubleshoots to resolve issues. -Supervision of department personnel as assigned. -Manages department assets as assigned. -Design and manage departments fire danger operating plan to insure that the wildland fire potential statewide is accurately assessed. -Participates in State and regional fire behavior/fuels working groups. -Establishes severity parameters and local adjustment factors for Texas fuel types. Monitors and documents fuel moistures for updating thresholds needed for fire management decision support. Assist in the establishment of burning parameters and red flag conditions for all fuel types in Texas. As an additional duty, respond to wildfires. -Serve as Fire Behavior Analyst. -Serves as a professional representative of assigned departments. Serves as a point of contact for local, State, and Federal government personnel of Texas A&M Forest Service (TFS) predictive service products and information, including national-level coordination on the development of predictive services products and services. -Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or related natural resource field. Preferred Education: Master's degree in Forestry or related natural resource field. Required Experience: Fourteen (14) years of experience fire operations experience with a land management agency, with four (4) years experience as a Fire Analyst III. Preferred Experience: Fifteen (15) or more years fire operations experience with a land management agency. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Required Knowledge: Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Thorough knowledge of complex natural systems, such as weather, vegetation, and topography. Knowledge of National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) and the requirements needed to keep it operational, including maintenance of the networks, data, and station catalog management. Required Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Skill in designing and evaluating fire management decision support documents/products which support fire and resource management. Self motivated. Required Abilities: Ability to acquire, develop and manage spatial and tabular data. Leadership abilities to manage department, division and agency goals, including management of assigned personnel. Ability to interact with diverse groups to form partnerships and accomplish common goals. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses: Required: Valid Texas Driver’s License. Certificates to document required and preferred training.
