Job TitleAgricultural Research Worker Agency Texas A&M Agrilife Research Department Entomology Proposed Minimum Salary$15.00 hourly Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description The Agricultural Research Worker, under supervision, supports research or teaching laboratories, farms, or ranches by performing specialized tasks. Job Description The Texas A&M Veterinary Entomology laboratory focuses on the development of new pest management tools for livestock and poultry systems. Texas hosts a rich diversity of livestock systems, including beef and dairy cattle, horses and poultry, with these systems as the focus of this program. Investigations on improvements for ectoparasite management for companion animals and wildlife are a second focus. Insecticide resistance and control failures are commonplace for many fly and tick pests; therefore, innovative systems are needed to assist in their management. However, to successfully manage these pests, studies investigating their biology and ecology are needed. The role that biological control can play in assisting with pest control is another research avenue. The Agricultural Research Worker will be responsible for maintaining insect colonies used for research purposes and may assist with laboratory research projects as needed. Duties/Responsibilities: The Agricultural Research Worker be responsible for various aspects of arthropod rearing. Other duties will be as assigned. Required Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent Required Experience: • One-year related experience. Preferred Experience • Prior arthropod handling and/or rearing experience • Livestock or wildlife handling experience Required Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. • Willing to work with live arthropods. Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities • Proficient in Microsoft Office • Exceptional organizational skills • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people of diverse backgrounds • Experience working with arthropods Other Requirements or Other Factors: Work may require standing/sitting at work bench for extended periods of time. Willingness to follow strict biosafety protocols. Ability to work night, weekend, and holiday hours to perform duties to maintain insect colonies are required. Ability to work occasional extended workday hours to perform duties to support active research .
