Tetra Tech’s commitment to hiring the best talent in the industry and helping them thrive professionally is stronger than ever. We are seeking an Environmental Technician to work in our Aiken, South Carolina office to provide support on a variety of environmental projects across the Southeast.
ResponsibilitiesThe main duties and responsibilities of the position include assisting lead scientists during wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and protected species surveys; performing field audits and compliance inspections; data gathering and record keeping; and preparing reports. 
Other duties may include groundwater, surface water, and soil sampling using USEPA and State approved methods. Work for government, utility, and private sector clients in these areas is possible.
This position requires self-motivation, dedication and compliance with strict safety guidelines and the ability to work as part of a team with daily direction from project management. Experience is a plus, but not a requirement.
This position will involve some travel throughout the Southeast, with the potential for occasional travel throughout the country. The position provides the opportunity to learn and work with other departments and learn other environmental related services. Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus. Vehicle(s) are provided for all fieldwork. Project and travel expenses are reimbursed.
The position's primary work environment is field (80%) and office (20%). Field sites may be outside, exposing the candidate to weather conditions and varying terrain. Site visits or other meetings may involve long periods of time in a motor vehicle. Some occasional evening and/or weekend work is expected.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Higher education degree or courses in the field of science is a plus, but not required. 
  • 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, First Aid/CPR certification; these can be completed on the job.
  • Must be able to obtain additional certifications, as needed (various state stormwater inspector certifications)
  • Must be willing to work on a team where roles are dynamic in nature and tasks may rotate or change daily.
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail to collect data accurately and thoroughly.
  • Must be able to walk up and down slopes and on uneven terrain. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions .
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations. 
  • Must be able to work weekends, overtime, and/or extended hours when required as needed .
  • Must be able to travel and work at remote sites as needed.
  • Must be able to pass background screening requirements including criminal history, motor vehicle check, drug testing, etc. 
  • Local candidates preferred; no relocation allowance is provided.
  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
