Job Description

We are looking to hire an Operator who will be instrumental in the success of Tessenderlo Kerley’s new plant startup in Defiance, Ohio.

What you will do:

  • Operate the processing equipment via DCS interface. Make necessary process adjustments to ensure product quality and process safety and efficiency.
  • Loading and unloading of trucks and railcars in accordance with TKI policy and OSHA, EPA, HM-126, BOE, and DOT regulations.
  • Reading and recording of local instrumentation. Obtaining and analyzing product samples to ensure product quality necessary to assist B Operator.
  • Containment, clean up, packaging, and labeling of Hazardous Waste according to HAZWOPER training and OSHA, EPA, RCRA, HM-126, and DOT regulations.
  • Outside operation of manual valves and equipment as necessary to assist B Operator.
  • Troubleshoot and correct irregularities with the process and process equipment.
  • Participate in the plant safety program including presenting and attending required safety meetings, reporting of potential hazards, and performing monthly safety inspections.
  • Routine inspection of vessels and equipment to prevent equipment failure or damage.
  • Maintain plant property in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Assist in plant projects including maintenance, turn-around, lockout/ tag-out, and confined space entries.
  • Implement an emergency response plan and assist in the mitigation of emergency situations.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by management.
  • Perform new facility start-up activities including P&ID walk-down / red-line as-built drawings, equipment and piping hydro-testing, and preparing equipment for service when turned over to operations.
  • Assist with Process area set-up and organization
  • Assist with valve tagging, pipe labeling, sign installation, and safety-related painting.
  • Transload incoming product railcars to bulk trucks for customer delivery until the terminal is functional and in operation.
  • Assist with the development of plant operating procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and mitigate plant processing issues.
  • Initiate work orders for plant maintenance issues.
  • Utilize plant equipment to clear snow and remove ice during inclement weather.
  • Set the tone for safety and work ethics for the operations department and all coworkers.
  • Coach and train members of the operations team.
  • Assist with planning and execution of turnaround maintenance activities.
  • Monitor activities of contract personnel to ensure safe work practices are implemented.
  • Maintain all plant areas in a clean and organized manner.
  • Obtain, analyze, and prepare for the shipment process and storage of product samples.
Qualifications

What we need from you:

  • HS diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical and mechanical experience desired.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate and work with co-workers and customers in a professional manner.
  • Good mechanical and technical knowledge and skills
  • Must be able to read and understand the material
  • Basic mathematical and analytical skills
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate – must know basic computer skills
  • Must be able to attend classes and pass state-required boiler operator certificate program.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand for prolonged periods of time, climb multiple flights of stairs, and have the ability to perform various tasks using reaching, pulling, and pushing techniques.
  • Must be medically cleared to utilize self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), in-line air with full face respirator, and other respiratory equipment.
