Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for critical component development and qualification activities at suppliers. More specifically, this DFM focused SIE will be the point resource to drive DFM activity for battery components working with supplier and cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing challenges and devise solutions to mitigate risks and eventually help develop a mass producible design. The job involves communicating well with internal and external teams, traveling to suppliers in different regions, and reviewing product/process concerns/risks. This position will be responsible for preparing suppliers for success and improving supplier product quality using collaborative efforts to accomplish this task via DFM activities. The goal: delivering on time quantities of high-quality component parts into Tesla's production processes to enable extremely rapid development cycles and product launches

What You'll Do
  • Early engagement in design of battery mechanical components with a focus on Design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Engage with suppliers to understand the process design and develop DFM documentation with a focus on sustainable mass production
  • Collaborate with Tesla design team to work on design iterations and process iterations that result in sustainable mass production
  • Develop, manage, audit, improve, and correct supplier component manufacturing execution, assembly techniques, and quality control processes from the advanced development phase to mass production qualification
  • Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality driven by DFM findings
  • Facilitate clear communication of technical requirements between suppliers and Tesla design, quality, manufacturing and purchasing teams
  • Guide suppliers in developing robust manufacturing processes and qualifying these processes
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5 years leading DFM experience supporting battery cell, battery cell components, mechanical enclosures or similar in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Process Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or Supplier Industrialization Engineering role
  • Experience in Quality Systems a plus: PPAP/APQP processes
  • Background in Statistical Process Control, Capability Analysis (Cp, Cpk), MSA, FMEA, Control Plans
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection
  • Possess demonstrable leadership abilities; Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Self-starter, Ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment; Ability to define and execute a project using project management techniques
  • Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers and other functional areas
  • Strong technical writing ability and an ability to explain complex issues in a concise and plain manner
  • Willingness to travel on short notice, up to 25% travel may be required

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
