What to Expect

A Staff Automation Engineer for Drive Unit Manufacturing will play an integral role of a project iniative that focuses on improving overall manufacturing KPIs (key performance indicators) and solving the mostchallenging problems across the business unit. The best candidate for theposition is a subject matter expert in a given field which includes electrical design, sustaining projects, PLC Programming, and/or Robotics, along with a high aptitude to learn newskillsets in the position. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual and will be joining a teamresponsible for supporting and improving the production equipment needs,including start-up, commissioning and sustaining of equipment for upcomingmodel changes with process improvements.

Successful members of the team are highly proactive andself-sufficient in pursuing improvement projects, are capable to multitask andrefocus efforts immediately to meet constantly shifting demands in a fast-pacedenvironment.They should have exceptional leadership and ability to drive cross functionalcollaboration projects to completion on or ahead of schedule.

This role requires full ownership and capability across the board to sustainall parts of the automated equipment.

What You'll Do
  • Sustain 24x7 production operations through respondingto and resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize unplanned downtime
  • Be an active leader of a cross functional team while taking onimprovement projects to assist in improving the factory
  • Lead, design, and implement equipment upgrades with a focus on serviceability,reliability, and process improvements and capabilities. (Some weekends and holidays required during installation and/or ramp)
  • Develop and improve equipment validation proceduresincluding calibration and qualification, diagnose equipment failures, finds root cause, andcommunicates actions taken to the rest of the team
  • Become Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assignedarea and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shift technicians
  • Day to day coverage of production line equipment: respondto alarms, breakdowns, and Production requests quickly and efficiently tominimize downtime
  • Participate in spare part analysis and inventorydevelopment, cost reduction and process improvement
  • Work with Manufacturing, Process, Quality Engineering andother cross functional groups to resolve maintenance issues, improve equipmentreliability, review procedures, and minimize equipment downtime
  • Investigate and implement countermeasures to preventrepetitive breakdowns
  • Develop business cases for continuous improvementprojects and equipment acquisitions
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in mechanical,electrical, mechatronics, or robotics engineering or similar engineering orscience field of study, or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptionalability
  • 10 years of experience performing similar work(automotive industry experience preferred)
  • Expertise in automation which includes industrial robotsand controls systems which includes programming ladder logic and/or structured text on multiple PLCcontroller platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens and/or Beckhoff)
  • Program and teachindustrial 6-axis robots (FANUC) Sequence complex, multi-station machinery formaterial pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, welding and conveyanceapplications
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5, or similar 3D CAD software(Solidworks, ProE, Unigraphics, etc)
  • HMI and Vision system development & qualification experience
  • Have a demonstrated trackrecord of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative andPredictive Maintenance activities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude forlearning systems quickly and utilizing structured problem-solving techniquessuch as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D)
  • Familiarity with designing any or all of the following:mobile & stationary material handling equipment, towed dollies, racks,stands, lift-assists, and end-of-arm tools
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes and avariety of engineering materials and/or fastening methods
