What to Expect

Tesla is seeking ahighly motivated Senior Process Engineer to contribute to the development ofcritical process monitors to enable world-class manufacturing of Tesla'scutting-edge battery packs.

The Battery Packprovides energy storage for every Tesla vehicle. This is an excitingopportunity to build the process foundations for the next generation of Teslamanufacturing. Tesla is a demanding andfast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem in world-changing products.

The Senior ProcessEngineer will also work with cross-functional teams throughout the entirelifecycle of the product and processes. He/She will work closely withEngineering (Design, Manufacturing, Equipment), Quality, and NPI teams to bringthe new product from initial design, through prototype development, and finallyinto full production. The Senior Process Engineer is responsible foreliminating waste in the manufacturing system so that every hour of work addsvalue to the final product.

What You'll Do
  • Develop critical process monitors and metrics for battery module and pack assembly and test
  • Automate reporting with the creation of dashboards to assess process and production throughput capability, including OOC%, best tool matching, CpK analysis, and other six sigma concepts
  • Responsible for diagnosing issues found during the manufacturing process and drive corrective action back to the source, resulting in root cause identification and elimination
  • Guide and develop roadmaps for aggressive improvement to OEE metrics: Yield, Cycle Time, Availability, and Cost. Report metrics to upper management
  • Manage workload with a positive attitude as a team player in a collaborative work environment
  • Qualification of new equipment and processes that are being introduced into the manufacturing line, bring the prototype to maturity for hand-off to junior engineers and sustaining technicians
  • Perform process characterization, establish process controls for all critical process parameters, support process development, drive to improve yield, and reduce cost
  • Perform supporting activities for engineering and manufacturing including 5S and Lean manufacturing activities, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures
  • Manage a small team of engineers and/or technicians
What You'll Bring
  • BS degree in engineering, mathematics, physical science (advanced degree preferred), or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 4 years Process Engineering experience
  • Must be exceptional with data collection and analysis. Ability to develop data-driven root causes and propose strong solutions Tableau, R-studio, Minitab, and/or JMP experience preferred. Efficient SQL scripting required
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
  • Exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges
  • Demonstrated experience in ramping a high volume, automated and semi-automated manufacturing line
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineering organization. This includes excellent communication skills: written and verbal
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper, faster in alignment with the aggressive Tesla approach to revolutionary product development
  • Must have demonstrated a history of growing team member skillsets in a mentor position
  • Passion for making fantastic new products with industry-leading quality
  • Vision inspection system familiarity is a plus, including profilometry inspection
  • Ignition Automation experience highly desired
  • Willing to perform shift work (nights) and overtime as required

Expected Compensation

$76,000 - $240,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
