GFTX's Body in White team seeks a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for re-designing and sustaining mechanical components within the Cybertruck's Body Center. This role involves enhancing fixtures, tooling, and collaborating closely with design, quality, production, and line builders. Responsibilities encompass design, analysis, sourcing, prototyping, testing, assembly validation, quality control, and engineering documentation.
The position offers growth opportunities for honing these skills within the team. We seek an engineer capable of creatively applying mechanical engineering principles to problem-solving, learning independently, and managing projects. The ideal candidate drives innovation, optimizing product quality in terms of cost, mass, and performance, while effectively communicating with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
Hands-on experience in engineering development and production issue resolution is preferred. Knowledge of electromechanical systems is beneficial, and occasional travel to suppliers, including international travel, may be necessary.
- You will analyze, design, and optimize new production tooling to ensuresafety while maximizing yield, CP, CPK, capacity, and cost effectiveness toenable the build of world-class vehicles
- Model and producedrawings that meet the design requirement
- You will develop andmodify existing line layouts, fixtures to improve material flow, wastereduction, safety, and ergonomics by utilizing Lean Manufacturing bestpractices
- Support the transitionof a product from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing
- Review and improvecurrent fixtures, work on design reviews for new projects ensuring Teslastandards Develop GD&T strategy to support vehicle quality build targetsand drive tooling design
- Define a project'sscope, manage spend against the budget, coordinate with outside vendors, andoversee the installation of new equipment to ensure all requirements are met
- CAD Data managementand updated CAD models for assembly lines
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5 years ofexperience in in a high-volume manufacturing environment, automotive preferred
- Proficiency ina 3D CAD software (Catia is a plus)
- Must possessprocess engineering skills (process development/improvement, troubleshooting,data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, etc.)
- Extensivehands-on experience modifying jigs, fixtures, and coordinating equipmentinstallations
- Goodunderstanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, process validationand reviews, assembly methods, and cost reduction methodologies
