What to Expect

We are looking for a highly motivated individual tolead, support, and manage a team of Engineers to ramp the powertrain manufacturinglines in Gigafactory Reno. This is a unique opportunity to work at theforefront of the rapidly growing EV industry. The successful candidate has ademonstrated history of strong cross functional leadership, first principlestechnical problem solving, exceptional communication, and a metrics drivenapproach to efficient manufacturing. Candidate should be well versed in allaspects of advanced manufacturing-commissioning first of its kind automated equipment,facilities, layouts, automation vendors, GSM, controls integration, safety protocols,data systems, new product introduction, and quality assurance. The candidatewill lean on first-hand experience to drive effective solutions to DFMEA,PFMEA, and Safety Risks.

What You'll Do
  • Work in lock step with the Manufacturing, Product Design, andQuality Engineering team to fully understand the product, equipment, process, andquality control plans.
  • Foster innovation for new processes and procedures that carryforward to future factories and products.
  • Prepare and present funding approval requests for new projects andupgrades to executive leadership.
  • Establish strategic roadmap for efficient install, troubleshootingof new equipment and guide the engineering team on solving problems and makingimprovements/upgrades to achieve target rate, yield and quality standards.
  • Lead power-on and commissioning activities of new production linesacross equipment, controls, process and quality engineering teams and ramp upto build plan.
  • Establish working relationships with current and new automationvendors.
  • Proactive planning for labor needs ahead of aggressive productionramp targets, communicating job expectations, performing employee performancereviews, and managing the team in alignment of company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to mentor and develop a strong team through selectiverecruitment, thorough and consistent on-boarding process, training, andcoaching
  • Maintain aculture of adherence to standardized work and compliance to documented processesand procedures to ensure safe practices and building products to quality specare sustained.
  • Coach the teamand instill process standardization, process audits, standardized training anddrive continuous improvement relentlessly.
  • Tactical planningto achieve the production build plan with highest safety, quality and yieldperformance.
  • Plan, coordinate and review both greenfield and brownfieldfacility systems install including: power, air and network distribution,material and personnel flow, equipment layouts/matrices and plant logistics.
  • Establish roadmap for continuous improvement and cost downprojects for existing production lines and develop high level KPI's andtargets.
  • Maintaindetailed component level process documentation and findings.
  • Maintaindetailed component process level schedule Manufacturing Line Development.
  • Defineprocess, equipment, and layout for prototype workstations.
  • Developspecifications and validation criteria for custom prototype equipment.
  • Leadthe development of hand off package for equipment - documentation, schematics,spare parts etc for the maintenance and sustaining teams.
  • Work with HR andother teams to improve the morale of the team and create an environment inwhich team members want to come to work and perform at the highest level.
What You'll Bring
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, orequivalent experience
  • 7-10 years ofleadership and manufacturing experience preferably in automotive industry or ahighly technical manufacturing environment.
  • The idealcandidate is analytical, detail-oriented, self-driven, critical thinker andable to pro-actively communicate with all employees and works well in afast-paced multi-cultural environment.
  • Experience withprocess improvement methodologies, improve efficiency, increase yield andavailability, design of experiments
  • Excellent verbaland written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to workwell under pressure, manage competing demands, juggle priorities and meettight deadlines with diligent follow through.
  • Hands-onexperience implementing lean methodologies and world class manufacturing practices.
  • Ability to usestructured problem-solving methods and techniques to successfully resolveproduction problems such as 8Ds, fishbone diagrams, 5 WHY analysis etc.
  • Ability to fostera close working relationship with team members, management and cross functionalgroups, highly collaborative and be able to have a positive impact on theoverall team.
  • High-levelleadership and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal,interpersonal and written communication skills
  • A strong sense ofurgency and drive to succeed
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (tolerance analysis, adhesivebonding, mechanical pressing, fastening)
  • Experience with automation, PLC programming and HMI design. (AllenBradley, Beckhoff and Ignition Automation experience preferred)
  • Familiarity with material joining techniques including fastening,welding, soldering, adhesive bonding.
  • Experience with industrial electrical design (facility powerdistribution 480 VAC through control logic in low voltage control panels).
  • Familiar with DFMEA and PFMEA execution.
  • Enthusiastic, innovative, and take-charge attitude. This candidatecan work independently and set the team's priorities based on competing andurgent priorities.
  • Must have introduced new equipment and processes in a production environmentunder tight deadlines. Product built must have at least structural andelectrical requirements.
  • Must have direct experience taking prototype products to largevolume manufacturing
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper,and faster in alignment with the aggressive Tesla approach to revolutionaryproduct development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
