What to Expect

The Sr. Controls Design Engineer, Vehicle Engineering, will be responsible for working closely with Core Automation Engineering, Product Design, and Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering teams and 3rd Party Vendors to create the next level sophisticated software and electrical design of Automated and Semi-Automated Sub-Assembly modules for Vehicle Manufacturing.

With considerable exposure to Automation systems design, structural kinematic analysis, proof of concept and build and commissioning experience, the Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will be a hands-on contributor in ensuring new production equipment immediately meets productivity requirements as well as developing new innovative assembly and manufacturing processes.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing requirements and develop automation solutions that enhance productivity, quality, and safety
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motion control systems, and industrial networks
  • Write technical specifications and internal standards for modular and scalable automation systems
  • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts for automation projects, adhering to industry standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing and process engineers to interface mechanical, electrical, and factory systems, and ultimately bring equipment into a production-ready state
  • Develop and program PLC and HMI applications to control and monitor manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless integration and effective communication between various components
  • Develop and program Virtual Commissioning and Robot Simulation environments.
  • Work closely with 3rd party integrators, panel builders and controls hardware manufacturers to meet aggressive build schedules
  • Troubleshoot and debug automation systems, identifying and resolving electrical and controls-related issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime
  • Assist in developing electrical design standards, best practices, and workflow tools that enable world-class manufacturing automation
  • Perform risk assessments and implement safety measures in automation designs to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • Proven experience (5 years) in designing and implementing electrical control systems for manufacturing automation
  • Familiarity with safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508) and risk assessment methodologies for machinery and automation systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues effectively
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills as well as the ability to work and manage time independently
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) and HMI development using industry-standard software
  • Proficiency in Robot Simulation Environments (Fanuc Roboguide)
  • Proficiency in programming 2D and 3D Machine Vision systems (Fanuc IR, Cognex InSight)
  • Proficiency in programming and deployment of SCADA systems
  • Creating detailed equipment documentation and technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience introducing new equipment and new processes into a production environment
  • Experience in motion control systems, servo drives, and robotics programming
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet) and their integration into control systems
