What to Expect

The Supervisor/ProjectManager - Lab Operations will work as a member of the Test Facilities &Equipment Engineering Team within the Engineering Test Organization.

This positionwill support all Engineering Test teams performing in-house as well as externaltests. The primary objective of this role is to manage the overall lab operationsefforts, organization, lab safety and processes at our various lab locations.

The successfulcandidate for this position must have a broad background and a proven record ofsuccess in laboratory or similar facilities, and workshop organization. Strong interpersonaland communication skills are a requirement to establish effective workingrelationships within Tesla.

What You'll Do
  • Manage and execute the day-to-day operations of the labs which consist of forklifting, pallet jack use, lifting and moving of material/parts/vehicles as requests arise
  • Manage Test Vehicle, Support Vehicle (truck & trailer) and Material Handling Vehicle (Forklift, E-Cart, Stringo, ...) fleets including coordination of usage and maintenance/repair
  • Manage and coordinate Test Track activities and ensure safe usage of facilities through vehicle safety training. This includes coordination with other Tesla internal and external teams as well as special events
  • Manage/coordinate with Tesla support teams and outside vendors (Janitorial, Security, Uniform Service, Recycling, HazWaste, Landscaping, etc.) This includes ownership of vendor service POs, specifying and sourcing of shop consumables (incl. PPE), tool crib items and equipment
  • Coordinate facility access requests and function as the EHS Interface for all labs (MSDS, Evac map/procedures, Incident reporting, etc.)
  • Manage Test Parts, Equipment and Vehicle logistics, including shipments, transfers and tracking to/from all Tesla locations, locally and globally
  • Establish and maintain lab organization program, lab procedures, signage and labels and enforcing these throughout all lab spaces
  • Manage storage, test sample post-test retention and disposition activities. This includes Managing Crash Vehicle "Boneyard"
  • Manage and facilitate Ad Hoc/Urgent Work Request in support of Test and Engineering efforts
  • Lead a team of associates to execute on work scope per above. This includes training/mentoring of less experienced associates
What You'll Bring
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Automotive Technology or Workplace Management from an accredited institution, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 10 years of automotive, test or other appropriate industry experience with a minimum of 5 years as a Workshop Manager/Supervisor/Foreman
  • Experience and demonstrated success with 5S or similar workplace organization methods
  • Extensive knowledge of methods, techniques, parts, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, and shop equipment, for the servicing of automobiles as well as facilities and test equipment
  • Must have valid driver's license and experience to tow car hauler and other large trailers to transport test vehicles
  • Ability to communicate clearly using excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Ability to remain engaged, proactive and positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for their success while maintain flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing information
  • Ability to effectively lead a team across multiple locations

Expected Compensation

$68,000 - $252,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
