What to Expect

Tesla's Vision Automation team is currently seeking a Process Engineer to support Tesla's in-house and purpose-built vision-based quality inspection systems. The Process Engineer is the bridge between Technical Operations and Product Engineers.

As a Process Engineer on the Vision Automation team, you will be a part of Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team. The Vehicle engineering team owns the centralized technical aspects of our multi-continent Gigafactory network and product line. The systems we work on include Tesla's most important programs, such as Cybertruck, Semi, Robotaxi, Optimus, and new factories. The Vision Automation team is responsible for making the factory systems and operations every bit as intelligent and dynamic as the products themselves using camera systems.

The Process Engineer will work on a wide variety of systems, including inspection training software, monitoring data systems, computer networking, and cameras. You will collaborate with operations daily to improve upon their processes to, e.g., set up new inspections, pick camera locations, and create new integration points with other factory systems, such as automated alerts, automated trigger event, inspection windows. You will contribute to Tesla's in-house vision software by proposing the new capabilities and requirements and defining scalable and reliable processes to adopt them on both a local and global level.

This role will not require writing new software, but it will require an understanding of computer systems. As a core member of a small team that is both building software and operating it on factory floors across Tesla's Gigafactory network, the ideal candidate will take full advantage of the opportunity be on the bleeding edge of machine learning and industrial automation projects.

What You'll Do
  • Learn the existing process to deploy and maintain vision inspections from both a software and technical operations perspective, then improve upon it
  • Ensure that our technicians follow a consistent process and modify it as needed
  • Modify PLC code to ensure the vision inspections integrate seamlessly with factory systems
  • Focus on operationalization and continious improvement of product and technician performance
  • Design inspection maintenance processes, like alerting, monitoring, and preventative measures
  • Prioritize software improvements based on Technician Feedback and your suggested best practices
  • Verify new software features as they are added to our vision automation platform and be the go-to person for manufacturing IT team and NetOps
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Quantitative field, or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, such as value stream mapping, statistical process control, DMAIC, PDSA, Fishbone diagrams, and Gannt Charts
  • Experience with PLC Systems, including Allen Bradley and Siemens, and Ignition or similar SCADA systems
  • Basic understanding of network configuration and management, i.e., ability to set up a home or office network, DHCP, subnets, VLANs, and connectivity troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with software support or development
  • Openness to working with others across the spectrum in manufacturing and software engineering, as well as being physically present on the shop floor
  • Experience programming in Python or scripting is nice to have
