Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Electronics Product Design team to work on high-profile, customer-facing electronic accessories. This role also provides an opportunity to integrate mechanical engineering expertise with firmware and mechatronics.

• Work closely with the Tesla Design Studio on customer-facing parts. Work closely with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop vehicle specific implementations
• Design with the user in mind, understanding customer behavior through testing and data analysis
• Develop designs in CAD for both detailed parts and master model assemblies
• Perform tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and other simulations and analyses before releasing designs for production
• Create 2D drawings appropriate for high-volume production and inspection methods
• Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and support tooling bring up
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to develop firmware for the modules you design
• Run validation tests and perform data analysis, both mechanical and firmware
• Hands-on hardware bring-up and qualification
• Provide production support to help identify and resolve issues
• Visit suppliers to improve production quality and ramp production rate but helping improve automation at vendors

• Knowledge of design of plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping and cast parts
• Proven experience in mechanical design, with a focus on consumer electronics
• Knowledge/interest in firmware development
• Proficient in CAD, CATIA V6 preferred
• Experience in drafting 2D drawings with GD&T
• Ability to perform first-principles analysis to ensure a successful design (stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost, and mass optimization, etc.)
• Experience with FEA, ANSYS preferred
• Passionate about electro-mechanical product design, inventing solutions, and finding better and simpler ways to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy
