What to Expect

As a MechanicalDesign Engineer, Collision Tools & Equipment, you will have the opportunityto drive innovation and efficiency into the collision repair process byoptimizing our tools and equipment portfolio. You will be part of afast-moving team that is responsible for ensuring all internal and 3rd partyTesla collision repair technicians have the tools and equipment needed torepair all Tesla models back to OEM specifications. This is a high-visibility,high-impact role that will partner with engineers, field support teams,technicians and external vendors cross-functionally to improve the way thatvehicles are repaired after a collision.

Multiple locations possible: Fremont, CA; Austin, TX

What You'll Do
  • Design and integrate tooling and equipment to optimize collision repair procedures and processes
  • Convert tooling requirements and specifications from technical specialists and technicians into actionable procurement items while keeping in mind safety, cost minimization and timing urgency
  • Support expansion and continuous improvement of repair operations in collaboration with collision technical operations, training, field technical specialists and collision technicians
  • Work with internal and external partners to successfully execute projects
  • Perform tooling validation with relevant stakeholders including technical specialists, engineers, and collision technicians
  • Create tooling drawings and specifications in line with common industry practices
  • Support the evolution of collision repair operational standards and support downstream collision center process integration and improvement projects. Conduct tooling and equipment design reviews for internal team feedback and for cross-functional presentations
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program, or equivalent
  • 3 years of hands-on mechancial engineering experience preferably in the automotive industry with examples of applied engineering success through work experience and projects
  • Project management experience, strong 3D CAD experience. CATIA is a plus
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is preferred. Familiarity with Regulatory compliance is a plus- (OSHA, CE, CCC, ASME related standards) is preferred. Broad experience with prototyping and fabrication methods
  • Excellent inter-department coordination and resource allocation
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality. Ability to work autonomously to manage projects and maintain communication with interested parties. Ability to travel nationally and internationally to support program needs
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned. Ability to obtain Tesla forklift certification if required

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
