What to Expect

This position can sit out of any Tesla Collision Center within the Southern United States

Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at theforefront of building innovative body repair and collision centers andautomation cells. This team is building the next generation of collision centerwhich allows our operations team to produce amazing customer service, in a safeand ergonomic environment.

The Manufacturing Engineering - Global Repair Businessand Technical Solutions team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to focuson supporting the scaling of our operations and services provided. Thisincludes equipment specification and commission, as well as establishment andoptimization of process parameters. The candidate will work closely withinternal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners onprocess development from concept prototype phase to productionintroduction.

What You'll Do
  • Define,implement, and drive project requirements, workflows and plans while managingtimelines, resources, communications, quality, risks, uncovering roadblocks,defining critical paths, identifying resource constraints, and any other issuesthat arise
  • Design of manufacturingequipment; AGV conveyance, lift assists, jig, fixtures, trolleys, etc.
  • Develop equipmentspecifications and requirements based on product constraints
  • Conduct equipment designreviews and provide design guidance to vendors and manage equipmentsuppliers through all phases of projects
  • Coordination with otherprocess, mechanical, electrical and support disciplines including projectmanagers, manufacturing reps, and other stakeholders
  • Interface with externalEngineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms during bid and projectexecution phases as needed to ensure that designs and specifications meet TeslaEngineering Standards Participate in on-field construction andcommissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technicalquestions and real-time issue resolution
  • Interface with customers,suppliers, and functional owners to coordinate project activities and remediateproject issues
  • Draft qualificationprotocols and manage equipment qualification activities. Provide equipmentvalidation documentation
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in ManufacturingEngineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics, orequivalent relevant experience
  • 5 years relatedexperience in a technology-based industry, where automated assemblytechniques are utilized
  • Understanding of DFM andPFMEA for equipment design and understanding of GD&TProficiency designing with AutoCAD 2D, experience designing automatedmanufacturing equipment along with proficiency designing mechanicalequipment, fixtures, and tooling in CAD
  • Proficiency in creatingdetailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques(CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming)
  • Proficiency inmechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection)
  • Experience introducing newequipment and new processes into a production environment
  • Knowledge of automatedequipment systems and tools - robotic, vision, material handling, Conveyors, PLC, HMI,etc.
  • Travel required -20-40% depending on project workload
