What to Expect

Tesla's Equipment Engineering team is responsible for building, maintaining & improving assembly lines and automation cells. This team works closely with Production, Maintenance & Process Engineering to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate, in a safe and ergonomic environment.

The Equipment Engineering - General Assembly SX team is seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to focus on supporting the scaling of our operations and product range. This includes equipment specification and commissioning, as well as establishment and optimization of process parameters. The candidate will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners on process development from concept prototype phase to production introduction. Must be willing to tackle whatever technical challenge presents itself and be willing to assist and learn from others in their areas of expertise.

What You'll Do
  • Design of manufacturing equipment; conveyance, lift assists, jig, fixtures, trolleys, etc; develop equipment specifications and requirements based on product constraints
  • Develop RFQs and manage equipment suppliers through all phases of projects
  • Coordinate cross functionally with process, mechanical, electrical and support disciplines including project managers, manufacturing reps, and other stakeholders
  • Interface with external Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) firms during bid and project execution phases as needed to ensure that designs and specifications meet Tesla Engineering Standards
  • Participate in on-field construction and commissioning activities by serving as the point of contact for technical questions and real-time issue resolution
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and functional owners to coordinate project activities and remediate project issues
  • Day to day coverage of production line equipment: respond to alarms, breakdowns, and Production requests quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime
  • Diagnoses equipment failures, finds root cause and communicates actions taken to the rest of the team; investigate and implement countermeasures to prevent repetitive breakdowns
  • Become Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assigned area and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shift technicians
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in a technology-based industry, where automated assembly techniques are utilized
  • Industrial Engineering experience working in high-volume assembly processes
  • Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tooling in CAD, like Solidworks and Catia
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Proficiency designing with AutoCAD 2D
  • Proficiency creating detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques (CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming)
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection) Conveyors, PLC, HMI, etc
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office suite

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $264,000/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
