What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Field Reliability and Quality Engineer to continually improve the Tesla Semi. This role will be responsible for tracking fleet performance, investigating field failures on vehicles, and working with engineering teams to root cause issues and implement solutions for current and future vehicles. This person will interface directly with customer, engineering, service, and supply chain groups. The engineer is expected to inspect vehicles in the field, leverage vehicle connectivity to remotely diagnose issues, and use data to predict failures before they occur. This individual should develop processes and solutions that can scale effectively to support the high volume Semi fleet. This role is critical in ensuring the durability, safety, and satisfaction of the end-users by maintaining the highest standards of product quality and reliability.

What You'll Do
  • Execute a reliability program aimed at ensuring the Tesla Semi exceeds customer expectations and industry standards
  • Investigate maintenance-related issues, analyze root causes, and derive resolutions to enhance field quality
  • Implement predictive and preventative maintenance programs using large data sets and telemetry to increase uptime of vehicles
  • Track fleet performance, failure rates, and resolution of identified problems
  • Coordinate with design and development teams to perform further root cause analysis with component owners where necessary
  • Communicate quickly and loudly to all relevant stakeholders and ensure that remedies are fully implemented
  • Create clear reports that cover failures, lessons learned, and trends for engineering leadership
  • Build tools and systems to increase effectiveness of diagnosis, reduce downtime, and speed up path to solutions.
What You'll Bring
  • 3 years of experience in reliability or field quality roles
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics engineering; other engineering fields with extensive in-field mechanical experience are acceptable
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with employees, managers, and external partners
  • Proficient in data analysis techniques
  • Understanding of software and firmware development processes
  • Proficiency in critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving to address complex technical issues
  • High attention to detail with drive to follow through on tasks and issues
  • Ability to work in diverse environments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure
  • Confident and articulate communicator. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills fit to create materials for executive leadership.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with all necessary internal business functions including engineering, production, supply chain, technicians, etc.
  • High proficiency in organizational applications software applications for analysis and presentation (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Project, Confluence, JIRA, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel to engineering, customer, and other remote locations.
