What to Expect

SHIFTS COVERING 5PM - 1AM

Tesla's Mobile Robotics team designs, builds, and deploys systems enabling scalable and flexible manufacturing lines for Tesla's growing product and factory portfolio. Products include multi degree-of-freedom autonomous mobile robots. The team joins mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering disciplines in a highly collaborative team.

Engineering Technicians within the Mobile Robotics team work side by side with engineers to support the development of our prototype robots and sub-systems. You'll be building the first iterations of the machines that make the machines, including highly actuated and electronically/computationally dense robots. You will have a blend of hands-on builds and responsibilities around analysis, testing, and documentation. Projects are open ended and often with limited up front guidance. The successful candidate for this position must have a broad background in mechatronics, industrial, and/or automotive building, maintenance, and testing. Must be a self-starter and able to figure out how to do things independently.

What You'll Do
  • Work with engineersto fabricate, assemble, and integrate mobile robot prototypes, includingmechanical assemblies, electrical systems, wire harnesses, etc.
  • Develop test plansand test systems, including building of assembly jigs and
  • test/validationsystems
  • Collaborate withengineering teams to root cause and resolve mechanical and electrical issues
  • Provide detailedwritten & verbal test status updates to key stakeholders
  • Support engineeringteams in instrumentation and data acquisition setup and logging
  • Maintain a lab,ensuring that it is well-stocked with the tools and materials needed to
  • make prototype wireharnesses
  • Supporting bench-topelectrical system builds and testing, including obtaining and tracking
  • Support low volumeprototype part builds and testing, including obtaining and tracking
  • Interface componentsfrom other Engineering and Purchasing groups within Tesla
What You'll Bring
  • 3 years ofexperience as an Engineering Technician in robotics, automotive service,manufacturing
  • Understanding ofultrasonic welding, mechanical assembly design, machining, 3D printing, andlaser cutting equipment are preferred but not required
  • Previous hands-onexperience with high voltage systems, wire harnesses, mechanical components,electro-mechanical devices, soldering irons, wire crimping tools, multi-meters,and oscilloscopes.
  • Familiar andcomfortable with soldering iron/tweezers, hot air, hand tools and some powertools
  • Previous experiencewith automotive wire harnesses: connectors, contact terminals, groundterminals, cables, clips and taping
  • Able to interpretdrawings and 3D CAD, and Able to read electrical schematics and harnessdrawings and create a harness from scratch. Experience in CAD (ex. CATIA,SolidWorks) and/or electrical design (ex. Altium) a plus
  • Experience/exposureto PLC programming (ex. Beckhoff) a plus
  • Understanding andcreating work instructions for installation and part rework, sourcing andbuying various tools, hardware components and test equipment
  • Knowledge of machineshop practices a plus
  • Analytical problemsolving skills & root cause analysis
  • Experience inmanufacturing or factory operations a plus
  • 2 yeartechnical/automotive degree preferred
  • Must be able to useword and spreadsheet tools (ex. Microsoft Office)

Expected Compensation

$24.00 - $65.00/hour cash and stock awards benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
