Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of building first-of-a-kind exterior finishing/coating processes which allow us to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The Coatings team is seeking an Engineering Technician for Applications system to focus on supporting the scaling of our operations and product range. You will support the development of technically complex applications and equipment to deliver quality and efficient production yield. The candidate will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners on application development from concept to production. This role requires a thorough understanding of application fundamentals and substantial skills with simulation software. It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis and exercise aggressive application optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to develop, optimize, and validate application equipment performance
- Support the installation (mechanical, electrical, and controls) and commissioning of production and pilot equipment, including project timeline, risk identification, project status reporting & oversight of installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines
- Operate pilot equipment to assess capabilities, identify shortcomings, and provide feedback for equipment design enhancement
- Assist in application equipment support for Powder coating, Painting, Sealing, Laser trimming, laser ablation, surface finishing, Paint film lamination, laser curing etc
- Support Application development from concept to serial production with Engineering team on Technology research and development in design and manufacturing
- Conduct application development trials, testing, collect and report results to Engineering team
- Support Engineering team in application systems design, layout, and simulation for line balancing
- Support product launch and application process validation for installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines, execute qualification protocols/activities
- Support process qualification for coating applications including development of acceptance testing criteria and verifying requirements using statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC and Cp/Cpk)
- 5 years related experience in a technology-based industry, where automated techniques are utilized in the finishing/coating of consumer products
- Experience working with or developing functional/aesthetic coating processes, including automotive paint & powder coating
- Experience with installing and commissioning Application Equipment's, Automation systems & Conveyor systems for any applications such as Powder coating, Painting, Sealing, Laser trimming, laser ablation, surface finishing, Paint film lamination, laser curing, material handling etc
- Experience with application and/or industrial robot installation, programming, and maintenance. (Kuka/Fanuc/ABB/Durr preferred)
- Desired experience with Robot simulation packages like 3DOnsite, Roboguide, KukaSim, Process simulate, WinMod, Robot studio, etc & CAD softwares like Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, etc
- Knowledge of industrial process equipment, new product introduction, manufacturing operations Automation industry standards, Safety standards & managing interfaces between line equipment & facilities
- Knowledge of MS Office suite, Confluence, Jira, Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC languages, HMI, SCADA, Virtual commissioning of robotics system
