What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to launch Manufacturing lines for our cutting-edge Battery products. Battery development is at the heart of our company and this is an exciting opportunity work directly the central challenge with electric vehicles - battery cost. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.

In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, Manufacturing Engineers work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. You will work closely with Design Engineering, Quality and Production to take Battery design changes and new Battery designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production.

What You'll Do
  • Design manufacturing equipment and fixtures
  • Develop and launch all new manufacturing processes
  • Design production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency
  • Incorporate lessons learned into design for manufacturing for future battery architectures
  • Collaborate with small teams on in-house development of novel and complex automation equipment
  • Develop specifications for custom automation equipment
  • Closely collaborate with external equipment integrators on custom automation equipment design. Manage external equipment integrators from equipment development through handover to local operations teams
  • Install, commission, and qualify new equipment and fixtures for production implementation
  • Create detailed documentation for equipment handover to operations team
  • Troubleshoot processes capability and stability through root cause analysis and design of experiments
What You'll Bring
  • Design of mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CATIA is also a plus)
  • Multiple new equipment installations and experience developing automated manufacturing equipment
  • Multiple new product startups and experience transitioning products from prototype to production
  • Development of manufacturing processes for new and unique products
  • Introduction of new equipment and new processes into a production environment (APQP is a plus)
  • 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Ability to travel to the US and abroad
  • Project management experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
