Dynamic Full-Time Exercise Specialist Position:
Terwilliger Plaza, Portland’s premier Continuing Care Retirement Community, is currently seeking a full-time Personal Trainer / Wellness Coach to join our wellness team. Wellness programming is vital to keeping our members active and engaged. The Wellness team is essential in providing programming to our members that targets all seven dimensions of Wellness.
This position requires an energetic and creative professional with experience in personal training, group exercise, programming, presenting, and creative thinking, as well as the ability to work independently and as a team.
We are looking for an outstanding candidate - this is a great opportunity to share your enthusiasm for and knowledge of wellness while serving an amazing community of seniors.
Our ideal candidate is great at connecting with people, and has a background in group exercise as well as one-on-one training. Knowledge of aquatics/lifeguarding is preferred. We are especially interested if you have knowledge and experience in working with individuals affected by dementia, Parkinson’s, arthritis, and other age-related conditions.
· Assess and evaluate Members’ needs for exercise and fitness. Work with Members individually and in groups. Plan individual Wellness programs for participating Members
· Supervise or present exercise programs
· Assist team members with orientation to Wellness and Aquatic Centers
· Produce promotional materials, newsletters, flyers, etc. as required
· Monitor and provide a safe and clean space in the Wellness Center
· Chart Member’s progress
· Assist with collecting data and reports for Wellness activities
· Provide Wellness programming to Employees and Members
· Work in collaboration with other departments and individuals to provide appropriate assistance to Members
· Perform administrative functions for the department
· Promote the mission, vision, and values of Terwilliger Plaza
· Other duties as assigned or may be necessary in an organization having overlapping roles and responsibilities
Required skills/ knowledge/abilities:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work with staff and external constituents
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in an exercise-related discipline preferred; Wellness certifications and experience may substitute for degree
· Minimum two years of successful experience in a position with similar responsibilities
· Must be able to demonstrate proper uses of the exercise equipment
· Must be physically able to assist Members in safe exercise and the safe operation of the equipment
· National Certification in Personal Training from ACE, ACSM, or SFA (Senior Fitness Association) or equivalent required
· A passion for working with active older adults
· CPR and First Aid current certification required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $20.00 per hour PLUS commission for personal training
