Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate in Drug Substance Manufacturing to join the Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) team at Terremoto Biosciences, in South San Francisco. Reporting to the Associate Director, Drug Substance Manufacturing, the candidate will work flexibly across several small molecule drug development programs, leading from the bench while occasionally managing outsourced activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execute synthetic experiments to develop and optimize robust chemical processes for complex drug substances, including purification and characterization.
• Troubleshoot challenges encountered during small-molecule process development and scale-up.
• Work cross-functionally with the larger CMC team to ensure timely delivery of drug substance throughout all development stages.
• Proactively identify drug substance-related risks and communicate issues effectively to internal stakeholders.
• Author development reports and compile/maintain scientific documentation.
• Review and approve cGMP documents, including batch records, change controls, deviations, and specifications.
• Support external CDMO activities for drug substance development and manufacturing, including tech transfer, scale-up, process development, and optimization, where needed.

Professional Experience/Qualifications:

• M.S. or Ph.D. in (organic) Chemistry with a minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on industry experience in small molecule process development.
• Strong technical expertise in synthetic organic and/or process chemistry and experience with small-molecule characterization & structural elucidation through NMR, HPLC, LC-MS, etc.
• Ability to independently plan, design, and execute experiments supporting on-going drug substance development programs.
• Strong understanding of solid-state properties of small molecules preferred.
• Understanding and knowledge of industry practices in drug substance manufacturing and supply, including cGMP regulations and compliance preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced small company setting.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally.

* The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $145,000 to $155,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Terremoto Biosciences, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
