EMT or AEMT/Security Officer

The primary function of this position is to provide an emergency medical response to any visitor or employee with an injury/illness and to interact with visitors and employees in a pleasant, informative manner that ensures both goodwill and a safe, secure environment against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

Key Responsibilities

1. Provide emergency medical response to visitors or employees within Tennessee Aquarium guidelines. Adhere to company protocol for injured staff and volunteers.
2. Observe guests and staff with their safety in mind and provide world-class customer service that exceeds expectations.
3. Provide fire prevention by performing regular physical checks of each building and inspecting fire panels, pull stations, smoke detectors, and extinguishers.
4. Ensure the security of assets through theft deterrence, monitoring security cameras, escorting cash control staff, and monitoring security alarms. Follow procedure for investigating alarms and incidents and notify staff/emergency agencies as appropriate.
5. Responsible for documenting all incidents and promptly distributing reports appropriately.
6. Perform patrols daily throughout the building and grounds. Examine doors, gates, and windows to determine that they are secure. Scan QR codes to verify patrols.
7. Perform daily building inspections prior to opening. Document any safety concerns and notify the appropriate department(s).
8. Involved with base dispatching via a two-way radio, loading dock receiving from vendors, and other duties as assigned and/or required.

Key Requirements

• Previous relevant experience working with the public.
• Courses related to public relations, safety, fire science, criminal science and crowd dynamics preferred.
• Must have current Tennessee EMT or AEMT certification and be physically able to perform any medical and/or life-saving procedures as pertain to the certification.
• Must project a positive attitude and deal pleasantly and effectively with visitors and staff.
• Must be able to accurately document pertinent incidents and reports and maintain logs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows-based computer applications.
• Must be able to work hours involving shift work, weekends, and holiday coverage.
• Must maintain an active state of Tennessee EMT or AEMT certification certificate. Failure to disclose restrictions related to your medical license may be grounds for termination.
• State of Tennessee Security license - must acquire within 15 days of employment and maintain it while employed.
• Must complete Safe Restraint and De-Escalation training within 15 days of employment.
• Walking, running, standing, and climbing several levels of stairs on a routine basis; lifting equipment and packages of up to 50 lbs.

Full-time; hourly ($19/hour)
