Temple University, Office of Physician & Faculty Recruitment is Hiring an Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Near Philadelphia, PA

Summary of Position:

The Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) is seeking an organized, efficient, and effective data-driven leader with solid knowledge and experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The primary role of the Associate Dean will be to direct diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for the internal environment at the LKSOM, including students, faculty, and staff. This will include drafting a strategic plan, oversight of a Diversity Committee to advise the work, and close collaboration with other relevant offices and the LKSOM Dean. This is a new, full time position, reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean, OHEDI.

The Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will have responsibility for guiding efforts to conceptualize, define, assess, nurture, and cultivate diversity as an institutional and educational resource through:

  • Developing an LKSOM Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan with invested student, faculty, and staff stakeholders. This plan should include measurable benchmarks for recruitment and retention, specific goals for monitoring and improving culture, inclusivity, and belonging, and specific goals for supporting underrepresented students and faculty.
  • Coordinating the work of a Diversity Committee for LKSOM to inform the Offices work and update the strategic plan.
  • Providing the LKSOM Dean with a report each year regarding progress and updates to the strategic plan.
  • Defining goals for DEI at all levels, including target priority populations (i.e., define the LKSOMs goals regarding inclusion of students/faculty with marginalized identities and define target demographics).
  • Partnering closely with the Office of Student Support to develop and implement a plan to support underrepresented students during medical school.
  • Partnering closely with the Office of Faculty Affairs to develop and implement a plan to support underrepresented faculty in promotion, tenure, retention, and belonging.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education to develop and maintain an inclusive and bias-free curriculum.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Physician/Faculty Recruitment and Retention on diversity recruitment strategies, including strategic sourcing, outreach, and participation in diversity recruitment-related conferences and events.
  • Developing pipeline programs for underrepresented students from elementary school, high school, and college to increase URM medical school diversity.

Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a professional in the broader field of diversity, with a demonstrated track record of successfully addressing diversity /inclusion goals in the context of a major health organization, institution of higher education, or other complex organization. This position requires a doctoral degree, including a Ph.D., MD/PhD, or equivalent. This position will have a faculty appointment appropriate for the incumbent's background and experience.
