Job Information

  • FLSA Status : Nonexempt

Job Summary

  • Assists physicians, other athletic trainers, orthopedic surgeons, APPs and supportive staff with patient care in the Orthopedic Surgery outpatient offices and clinics. Follows patient from arrival to departure. Ensures patient and physician needs met to support patient experience. Prepares charts for visits, testing approvals. Assists in procedure / surgery scheduling, contributes to clinical regulatory readiness, inventory/stocking, patient phone call responses, other duties as assigned including of subordinate positions.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree: Athletic Training accredited program (Required)
  • Masters Degree: Athletic Training accredited program (Preferred)

Licenses and Certifications

  • BOC - Certified Athletic Trainer (Required)
  • AT-LIC - PA Athletic Trainer (Required)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (Required)

Experience

  • 2 years of orthopedic experience in a healthcare setting (Required)

Job Responsibilities

Service Provision

  • Assists physician staff in preparing patients for examinations, removal and application of casts and splints, patient brace/ crutch fitting and product education.
  • Follows patient care from check in to check out. Escorts patients from registration to exam room, cast room or x-ray.
  • Performs data collection and data entry (patient history), clinical reconciliation home exercise protocols for patient per physician request.
  • Performs patient set up and education.
  • Completes imaging, medication, procedure, specialty medication authorizations.
  • Ensures correct injection/procedure administration documentation/billing assistance to physician prn (NDC, lot number, etc.).
  • Works with surgery schedulers to provide correct procedure codes and assist in surgical procedure approval.
  • Preps charts to avoid unseen issues day of visit, i.e. obtaining reports from imaging, labs etc.
  • Backing up/cross coverage of other employee.
  • Performs suture or staple removal for post-operative patient care, aids physician in procedures, wounds care, injection draws.
  • Maintains clinic flow between all areas.
  • Record cases information. Completes necessary paperwork/forms for patients
  • Provides patient phone calls/messaging responsibility to answer patient questions and requests
  • Assists with periodic inventory inspections and advises management of stock level shortages.
