EMPLOYEE STATUS: Full Time, 12-month Non-Bargaining Unit Position

REPORTS TO: Director of Academic Affairs

POSITION SCOPE: The primary role of the Director of Early Childhood Education is to provide program coordination, administration, and leadership for all programs in PSD’s Early Childhood Center. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Communicate a clear vision of high achievement and continuous quality improvement consistent with the mission of PSD
• Evaluate all aspects of programs and services 
• Supervise and evaluate all ECE team leaders and faculty, teacher aides, personal care aides for all programs located in the ECC (including Early Intervention (ages 0 – 2), Early Intervention Preschool Program (agees 3-5), and the Community Preschool Program
• Monitor curriculum implementation/assessment coordination and learning strategies implementation
• Supervise and coordinate responsibilities with the Assistant Director of Early Education Programs
• Monitor staff professional growth plans for implementation of instructional strategies
• Coordinate coverage for staff absences
• Work with the Director of HR and Director of Academic Affairs to schedule and conduct interviews and hiring for ECE positions
• Maintain and ensure confidentiality of student records
• Maintain a safe school atmosphere conducive for learning by ensuring that there is effective discipline. 
• Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the Director of Academic Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s Degree in Deaf Education or Special Ed.
• Principal Certification or the ability to obtain licensure

SPECIALIZED TRAINING, EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE

• 5 years teaching experience in an educational setting
• Administration experience in a school setting or program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
• ASL- advanced proficiency required
• Collaborative leadership skills
• Extensive knowledge of Early Childhood Education
• Superior organizational abilities, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer literacy with some knowledge of database management

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Occasionally lift up to 15 lbs.
• Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
• Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• Regularly walk, sit, stand, kneel, crouch, stoop and reach with hands and arms
• Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
• Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screen
