This position will be based in our HQ located in Ashburn, VA. (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Summary

This position is for a Senior Database Administrator to join the Xacta.io development team and is focused primarily on developing highly performant database schemas and queries. The DBA role is integrated into development starting from requirements review and involves collaborating with developers, business analysts and quality assurance. The DBA will also aid in maintaining internal developer and QA environments as well as providing guidance and troubleshooting customer environment issues.

Responsibilities:

• Installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrading of PostgreSQL servers.

• Coordinate with developers and analysts on business requirements to implement efficient database scripts for enhancements.

• Implement, review and collaborate with developers on enhancements to queries and database schema design, including database triggers and functions.

• Provide insight into best practices and configuration tuning.

• Support multiple development and QA environments as well as potential customer production databases.

• Ad-hoc backups and restores.

• Trigger, function, view, and index creation/maintenance/tuning.

• Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues including blocking queries.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training or work experience (6 years)

• Strong skills in performance tuning configurations and queries for large data loads.

• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS) as well as on-prem.

• 5 years in database administration in PostgreSQL.

• Strong written and oral communication skills.

• Experience in scaling databases.

• Strong skills in writing and maintaining complex queries, views, functions, and procedures in PL/pgSQL.

• Experience with GIT.

• Distributed data experience (Citus, etc).

• Experience with Spark.

• System administration experience.

• Data lake/data warehouse experience.

• Shell scripting proficiency.

• Experience creating/maintaining pgtap test suites.
