The Senior Accountant ensures the completion and timeliness of monthly closings and maintains general ledgers, and prepares financial statements for the TELACU Residential Management, Inc. (TRM) and TELACU Property Management, Inc. (TPM) portfolio. Prepares and submits budgets annually, ensures rent increases are requested as needed along with extending contracts with expiration dates.
Essential Job Duties
- Ensures the completion and timeliness of monthly closing processes including preparing and posting journal entries (i.e. maintenance billings, recurring monthly entries and other)
- Reviews general ledger accounts, and maintains monthly schedules for balance sheet accounts (i.e. fixed assets and depreciation schedules, reconciles security deposits and intercompany balances, reviews rent roll reports and informs other departments, such as occupancy, property manager, and/or management, etc. of any necessary correction or changes, etc.)
- Prepares periodic (monthly, quarterly, and annual) financial statements including balance sheets, budget to actual variance analysis, and cash flow reports for all assigned TRM and TPM portfolio. Researches and analyzes variances between budget and actual by making necessary journal entry adjustments and/or explanation.
- Supervises 2 Accounting Staff. Reviews Staff Accountant financial reports to ensure completion and timeliness of the report submission and distribution. Updates templates (budget, intercompany, payroll, etc.). Trains Staff Accountants and implements best practices.
- Attends meetings, provides accurate timely periodic financial reports, and responds to questions from owners, auditors, agencies, etc.
- Compiles data, prepares operating budgets for all affordable housing projects, and submits operating budgets to local agencies (HUD, CalHFA, TCAC, and/or city agencies) for approval which includes communication with agency representatives
- Renews contracts with federal or local agencies (HUD, State and city agencies)
- Updates and maintains project data within budget files (i.e. Replacement Reserve history, Rent Schedules, Management Certification, etc.). Enters budget amounts into mainframe accounting software, updates management fees and Central Office Costs (COC) to ensure proper accounting records. Keep informed of “Federal Register” and “HUD Clips” revisions and conveys to management.
- Completes special projects assigned by the Vice President of Accounting and President within the specified time frame.

Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required
- 5 years of general ledger maintenance with multiple entities
- 5 years of “hands-on” experience with a mainframe accounting software
- Knowledge of HUD multifamily housing regulations and property management preferred
- Heavy data entry experience with exceptional speed and accuracy is required
- Ability to handle multiple entities, multiple deadlines, and multi-tasks
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) skills, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail, prioritize, diligent, proactive, open-minded, positive, and focus
- Proven ability to be flexible and adaptive to fast-paced environment and with multiple different personnel
- Ability to work overtime with supervisor pre-approval and as needed
Computer & Software Skills
- Must have strong foundational computer skills including: Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook email and calendaring, Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, Power Point, TEAMS etc.), and the Internet.
- JD Edwards and OneSite experience preferred.
Travel:
- Occasional local travel
- Must have a valid California Driver’s License, proof of current vehicle insurance and a driving record that meets TRM and TPM insurer’s criteria; must be able to use own vehicle in the course of work.
Physical Requirements:
(6-8 hours per day) – Sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel (computer operation)
Occasionally
(Up to 3 hours per day) – Standing, Walking, Stooping/Bending, reaching with hands and arms, Lifting up to 20 lbs
Work Exposure & Environments:
Position may require occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and loud noise levels. Will be exposed to varying weather conditions, soil, pollen, grass and plant materials, and fertilizer while working; will be exposed to cleaning solutions of home strength; may be exposed to industrial strength solutions for pest control, paints, or solvents. Hazards: Occasionally exposed to biohazards such as blood-borne pathogens, sewage, and building waste.
COVID-19 Vaccination:
Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated by the first day of work. A copy of the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card must be submitted to Human Resources.
