Looking for a well-rounded candidate with both management (4 years) and fitness industry experience

The General Manager (GM) is a key member of the Centre’s leadership team who fulfils an essential role in the overall success of a company that is uniquely positioned and passionately committed to improving the health and well-being of the members and communities we serve.

The GM is tasked with the overall success and operational effectiveness of the Medical Fitness Center. The GM will oversee and lead multiple departments within the entire operations team which will require a comprehensive understanding of all the departments under the prevue of the GM. Specifically, the GM will be responsible for matters including strategic planning, budgetary and financial management, quality assurance, staff management and development, clinical integration, and programming development related to the department’s direct reporting. In addition, it is paramount this position exhibits excellent leadership, effective communication, and exemplary customer service related skills.

DEPARTMENT: Administration

REPORTS TO: IWP President

DIRECT REPORTS: Departments/Department Managers: Fitness and Wellness, Group Exercise and Programming, Training and Performance, Facilities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's Degree in exercise science or related field (exercise physiology, athletic training, public health).

HIRING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of four years of strong, progressive management experience in a fitness and wellness facility, preferably a Medical Fitness and Wellness Center.
  • Minimum of four years managing sound accounting practices including P&L statements and budgets as well as experience with standard business procedures
  • Highly advanced communication and other interpersonal skills.
  • No written disciplinary action within the last 12 months
  • Pass Background Check

  • Master’s Degree in pertinent field of study or other advanced level degree.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

  • Applied (Programming)
  • Oversight and management in developing and administering a comprehensive and individualized approach to whole-person health and the associated service offering designed to achieve an optimal state of wellbeing
  • Oversight and management of all corporate health/worksite wellness-related programming
  • Oversight and management with all the physician referred clinically integrated programming.
  • Oversight and management of a superior large-group exercise program as well as an exclusive boutique-style studio fitness program
  • Oversight and guidance to the facility engineer to ensure proper functioning of the physical plant including but not limited to HVAC, bodies of water, utilities, and environmental services.

Administrative (Finance/Operations)

  • Responsible for the direction and execution related to the performance of the Center including the development and implementation of the Annual Strategic Plan and Operational Budget
  • Formulates facility statistical (KPI) and financial reports that are reliable and accurate. Provides monthly reporting to the President as requested specific to programming, ancillary service lines, facilities, and human resources. Additional reporting as requested.
  • Establish and maintain fiscally responsible systems for billing, monitoring AP/AR, banking procedures, etc.
  • Institute all related department policies and procedures to ensure all operations and practices of the Center satisfy those policies and procedures with specific attention to Emergency Response Planning, quality assurance, HIPAA confidentiality, credentialing compliance, and member onboarding and assessing.
  • Assist with Human Resource tasks including new hire packages, benefit enrolment, termination/resignation submission, and labor law compliance.
  • Direct the development and implementation efforts related to services, programming, and associated ancillary revenues.
  • Implement the centre’s quality assurance practices for all department services to ensure program delivery is safe and effective.
  • Demonstrates competency in managing and administering client scheduling, client contacts, member tracking software, payroll/scheduling system, and managing the My Wellness Cloud Portal (or similar).
  • Develop and implement logistical workflows needed to achieve an effective and efficient operation related to daily business activity.
  • Management (Customer Relations/Team Performance)
  • Contribute to achieving a consistently excellent member experience resulting in high member satisfaction ratings and low member attrition.
  • Oversight of Department Management Team direct reports related to Key Performance Indicators, budgeting, programming, and customer service practices.
  • Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance of the Department Management Team direct reports as well as overseeing the work activities of the centre’s entire staff.
  • Effectively conduct Department Manager meetings
  • Administer employee feedback sessions and annual performance reviews as well as instituting performance improvement plans when needed.
  • Address all member and staff concerns as well as any other issues that directly affect the membership, staff, facility, and/or programs by providing a prompt and customer-friendly response.
  • Demonstrate the ability to initiate and manage crucial conversations with conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Competent with the daily operation of the club management software.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be acutely aware of the factors that contribute to a consistently excellent member experience. Assure quality standards are being met by conducting daily facility rounding including, but not limited to, cleanliness, equipment function, staffing responsibility coverage, etc.
  • Committed to providing the highest service standard possible by maintaining current certifications, attending continuing education seminars, and reviewing industry literature.
  • Achieve Organizational Alignment by demonstrating effective leadership and team-building skills resulting in a cohesive unit striving toward a comment goal.
  • Proficient in conducting presentations and seminars on various topics related to the business development and strategic positioning of the Center.
  • Direct daily Center operations and provide leadership for the Center.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $48,209.24 - $60,000.00 per year
