POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Supervisor will be responsible for production flow through the Swiss, Milling, and Turning departments. The Manufacturing Supervisor plans and assigns work, sets and monitors expectations, implements policies and procedures, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions. This person also ensures training and development of all employees and monitors performance to expectations.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES
  • Supervises production activities to achieve customer satisfaction and attainment of production schedules, delivery times, and effective operations and cost factors.
  • Provides team leadership through development of employees, motivating team to achieve departmental goals, driving communication, holding team accountable to plant policies, helping to develop cross training plans and productivity plans to meet direct labor goals. Sees problems as opportunities and reacts.
  • Performs activities necessary for the effective management of employees including: selection, development, mentoring, coaching, motivation, recognition and counseling of employees; completing annual and other employee reviews, implementation of organization goals and objectives; and planning, organizing, integrating, and measuring the work performed.
  • Solves production issues to address machine, program, and out of tolerance concerns. Investigates and determines root causes, error proofing, and corrective actions.
  • Supports continuous improvement projects (5S, elimination of waste, standardize work, cost reduction) while striving toward a lean operation. Identifies constraint work centers or machines for continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensures SQDIP boards are updated and communicates any gap in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity.
  • Works with team to develop and implement new capital projects and programming improvements to drive breakthrough improvement in performance.
  • Collaborates with pertinent departments and plant leadership to establish production, quality and cost control standards, production, and staffing scheduling, and assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Coordinates production activities with purchasing, maintenance, materials, engineering and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of people resources, machines and equipment.
  • Ensures environmental, health, safety and related process procedures are adhered to by self and direct reports.
  • Ensures compliance with all plant, corporate, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or necessitated by business conditions or changes.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be versatile in areas of CNC production, quality standards, company policies and procedures as well as ISO/FDA guidelines and regulations.
  • Comprehensive background in CNC machining, set up, and programming required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing with all levels.
  • Interpersonal skills (relationship building, teamwork, interpersonal insight, conflict resolution, customer orientation).
  • Strong leadership ability to drive for results (team development, ability to influence) and develop people (assessment of others, feedback/coaching, delegation, motivating others, performance management, communicating expectations).
  • Ability to make decisions using judgment and problem solving.
  • Performance skills (accuracy with detail, planning and organizing, efficiency).
  • Proficient personal computer and system software skills to accomplish word processing, worksheets, and production control systems. Working competence with personal computers including MS/Windows, Excel, Word and an ability to learn other MS/Windows-based applications and timekeeping system.
  • Flexibility in working schedule is required due to the expectations and variety of workloads and the team’s work schedules.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 5 years of experience in manufacturing operations and CNC programming is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • A.S. or B.S. technical degree considered a plus.

This position requires walking, sitting, communicating with others at least 1/3 of scheduled hours.
It also involves reaching and using hands and fingers to operate measuring instruments and machinery. Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds (under 1/3 of the time). Must have adequate dexterity with hands and able to work in small areas.

VISION REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to read small print (6-12 font) with or without vision aides. The employee is occasionally required to view items at 20 inches or less, with or without vision aides.

  • Exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals under 1/3 of the time.
  • Exposed to potential hazard from possible projectiles.
