POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibilities of the Director, Advanced Manufacturing Technology is to lead and drive the AME vision of “better, faster, lower cost”, by developing and leveraging manufacturing engineering expertise and technology in concert with lean processes, new technologies, and new equipment to dramatically improve operational performance and enhance capabilities across Tecomet operations globally.

As a core leader within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, this AMT Director will be responsible for leading the development and deployment of advanced manufacturing technology across all groups and extended value chain including global manufacturing and supply chain with specific leadership around newest manufacturing technologies, surface finishing, automation and robotic systems tied to targeted savings in specific value streams and processes. This position will work closely with all levels of the organization including customer interface to ensure that best practices and forward thinking are a part of our culture. He/she will work with the commercial team, management, customers, vendors, associates and internal support organizations to drive change and lead efforts to boost effectiveness of manufacturing engineering and technology globally. Most importantly, be a leader in helping to work on some the biggest issues and challenges within the business.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead AMT team to target, develop, evaluate, improve, and support implementation of the latest manufacturing systems and processes utilizing sound manufacturing engineering fundamentals, lean practices, and proven technologies to assure cost competitiveness with a focus on unifying technologies across Tecomet where possible.
  • Lead Tecomet in the use of the most current innovative technologies to improve efficient product production processes specifically leveraging automation, data exchange, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering leadership and teams in IPM and TBS to create a long-term technology roadmap and future vision tied to specific site Improvement Plans to ensure best in class manufacturing processes and uniformity across various product types across the enterprise.
  • Focus AMT team to propose and assist with implementation of best technologies to reduce cost in targeted areas such as Surface Finishing, Deburring and Automation, and Machining.
  • Improve overall manufacturing systems efficiency, reduce errors, decrease equipment downtime, and increase worker safety in manufacturing operations.
  • Identify specific and focused business problems around how production processes are performing and develop goals and strategies to address.
  • Use extensive analysis identifying patterns and trends to propose operational changes addressing not only equipment technology but people as well.
  • Utilize expertise with advanced manufacturing engineering technology (automation and robotics focus) to evaluate, improve, and deploy processes enhancing quality, throughput, and productivity.
  • Strong interface with customers and internal engineering community – for new product development and concurrent engineering (NPI) of products and processes. Drive Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) evaluations with emphasis on how automation can help improve throughput and productivity.
  • Capital equipment acquisition and implementation – including development of technical specifications, working with OEM vendors, distributors, integrators, and developing capital requirements.
  • Support development of legacy equipment and process technology integrating automation and robotics in line with global manufacturing strategies.
  • Lead, coach, consult and support site manufacturing engineering resources to develop capabilities and improve functional effectiveness
  • Promote and ensure sound engineering and process thinking utilization throughout company and external suppliers to improve quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • B.S in Engineering, or other technical field (Mechanical or Manufacturing related preferred)
  • Minimum of 12 years of successful experience with proven record of sustainable results working with automation, surface finishing and robotic systems including design, development, and integration.
  • 5 years leading manufacturing or product development team


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Subject matter expert in Automation and Robotics. Macro systems level design expertise and micro level process and tooling design and development. Working knowledge in IIoT/machine connectivity space is a plus. Additional expertise and/or working knowledge in any of the following core areas also a plus: assembly/testing, vision/sensors, molding, and/or machining.
  • Ability to assess current state of automation within operations and help form a roadmap forward.
  • Working knowledge of new product and process development (NPPD) and validation (PPAP, PFMEA/DFMEA, etc.).
  • Expert level problem solving and process troubleshooting capability. (RCCM, 8D, DMAIC, etc)
  • Manufacturing engineering fundamentals – engineering drawing and specification interpretation, tool and fixture design, gauge design, GD&T, equipment design, and process documentation
  • Basic lean and/or industrial engineering knowledge – process flow, equipment and line layout, ergonomics, etc
  • Project planning and management skills required. Ability to support multiple projects and balance priorities through planning and execution. Able to assess, plan, execute, and deliver large scale projects (>$1M spend, >5000-man hours).
  • Working knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD, Pro-E, Solidworks, etc.) with knowledge of process verification software ideal as well as machine connectivity software.
  • Strong coaching, facilitation and organizational skills. Ability to build credibility and trust quickly internally and externally.
  • Systems thinker and ability to think lean first and scale. Thinks long range and strategic.
  • Goal oriented and able to complete assignments on time with significant latitude and self-direction.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION PREFERRED

  • Project Management certification preferred
  • MS degree in engineering and/or MBA a plus


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel, globally (if required), 25-50%% of the time – with spikes based on project needs
