Technology Digest inc is Hiring a Junior Network and Broadband Technician Near Rockville, MD

Currently, we have an opening for a Junior Broadband Installation and Service Technician.

Please Note: The work will be primarily offsite at various residential housing sites in Montgomery County, MD. Hours to be worked: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm EST, On call evenings and weekends on an as needed basis.

  • Job Description:

This is an assignment on the Government site with highly competitive pay. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow within the Government environment. The initial term is one year with the option to be renewed annually upon satisfactory performance for up to 5 years.

Qualification and Scope of Work:

The use of software: Monday.com, SolarWinds, Microsoft Office

  • Installing, terminating and testing low voltage cabling (UTP, coax)
  • Network technologies to include: TCP/IP, wireless technologies, switches, routers, and access points.
  • Troubleshooting customer wi-fi service and devices, confirming power to equipment, and conducting performance and reachability tests.
  • Customer Service and critical thinking skills.
  • The coordination of daily schedules to prioritize workload.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS).

3) You will work primarily offsite at various residential housing sites in Montgomery County, MD. The hours to be performed are Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm EST, On call evenings and weekends on an as needed basis.

4) No Mileage/or parking reimbursements will be provided. Must have own personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and ability to drive to job sites around Montgomery County.

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Excellent customer service and communications skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work very independently.
  • Perform residential installation of internet service and Wi-Fi-connected devices.
  • Connect customer devices in their homes/residences (desktop computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, smart TVs, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and fix residential internet service issues.
  • Educate customers on operating the equipment and service after initial setup to ensure their long-term success with the service.
  • Provision of Government-owned WiFi routers/devices.
  • Update documentation on work performed inside the residence.
  • Test and replace uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) at Government sites.
  • Assist Network Operations Center (NOC) and Network Engineering staff as needed.
  • Assist in diagnosing problems with host network adapters, cabling, routers, switches, wireless access points, and Wi-Fi services.
  • Basic understanding of IT and networking technologies and protocols.
  • Low voltage cabling problems and related use of cable testers, cable trace/ID toners, and other tools.
  • Gather related information as requested by NOC Manager and associates.
  • Respond to electronic communications (email, SMS texts, phone calls) and maintain status information with NOC and associates as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of primary power distribution and protection systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Network Management Systems a plus.
  • Contractor will report directly to Community Technology Manager.
  • Contractor may work under the direction of Network Services staff as assigned.
  • Inventory Control/Procurement of IT equipment.
  • Technical Administration experience

5) Opportunity for expanded network support experience working on the Government’s fibernet network.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $35,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
