Job Description

Job Description

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, will assist in treatment planning and ongoing assessment of patients receiving Speech Therapy. The SLP-Assistant will also implement treatment plans of patients who have been evaluated by the Speech Language Pathologist. The following is a summary of major essential functions of the Speech Language Pathology Assistant. Other duties may be performed, as permitted by Texas law and regulations of governing entities. Specific functions may, from time to time, change. These functions include:

Essential Functions
  • Provide therapy for all types of speech, language, and hearing disorders.
  • Communicate with the SLP to discuss patient’s progress and treatments.
  • Complete all documentation that is required for each patient (progress notes, monthly, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for meeting with supervising SLP on a weekly basis as stated within the provisions of the Texas Speech/Language and Hearing Board.
  • Supply billing information to appropriate staff, in a proper and timely manner for all patient procedures.
  • Participate and attend rehabilitation team conferences and clinic staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Request orders of needed supplies and equipment in a timely manner to avoid emergency ordering.
  • Keeps informed of changes and innovation in the field through professional contacts, literature and workshops.
  • Continually pursue professional growth and act as a Resource for expertise in the Speech field.
  • Provide education to patients and their families that will reinforce the therapy provided in the clinic.
  • Either attends and actively participates in or obtains an excused absence and arranges for make up for all mandatory meetings and in-services.
  • Suggest and develop new patient programs and ideas for treatment as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate skills of effective time management.
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal communication skills while maintaining standards of professional ethics.

4. Assure that all documentation is co-signed by the SLP.

8. Observe patient confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.

12. Assume personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.

14. Provide education related to Speech Therapy to staff and the general public upon request.

19. Perform other duties, as delegated, required, or requested.

Qualifications

1. Must be a graduate of an accredited Speech program holding a Bachelor’s degree.

  1. Must be licensed as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant by the Texas Board of Speech Pathology and Hearing Examiners.

3. Must be competent to treat pediatrics and adolescents.

4. Must be CPR certified for all age groups.

Physical Requirements

1. Must be able to follow written procedures and verbal directives.

  • Must have adequate hearing and speech to effectively direct and re-direct the therapy program.
