Battery Pack Development Engineer

Our client is a technology and engineering services business, which applies world-class technical innovation, engineering, testing and manufacturing services to deliver energy efficient performance.

Their team consists of experts in electrification and battery technology, aerodynamics and thermodynamics, performance and specialist low-volume manufacturing. They operate across a wide range of sectors from automotive and motorsport, aerospace and defense, rail, off highway, and energy. They work in close collaboration with their customers and partners to meet the key engineering challenges – focusing on mobility, energy storage sustainability and efficiency.

They are currently sourcing a Battery Pack Development Engineer to support their operation in Fremont, California.

Direct Position

Dynamic Growing Company

Location: Fremont, California

Salary Range: $130k – $140k

Annual Bonus Potential: 15%

Direct Reports: 0-5 direct reports

Role Purpose:

To work on site with the client, providing the electrical and mechanical support with respect to the integration of the company’s battery pack assembly and related components into the client’s vehicles and test rigs.

Operational Duties:

• To assist the client with the integration of company’s battery pack assembly into the clients vehicles and test rigs.

• Work with company’s engineers based in the UK, to help solve issues seen at the customer.

• Work with engineers and technicians in company’s California workshop to ensure all root cause work, rebuild, repair and testing of battery packs is done safely, and per established procedures

• Be prepared to travel to support pack-to-vehicle build and vehicle and rig (BOT) testing.

• Assist with the build and fault-finding of battery packs installed into vehicles and test rigs

• Raise and track JIRA tickets related to issues with battery pack integration.

• Assist with hazard analysis, risk management and DFMEA for components and systems as required.

• Support virtual and physical builds for components and vehicles.

• Complete pack End of Line Testing after builds, repairs and upgrades to battery packs

• Preparation and presentation of reports for internal and external audiences.

• Support technical and project reviews with the customer, representing Company as required.

• Maintain positive relationships with customers, suppliers, coworkers and all other departments.

• Understand and work to Company, Customer, Industry and Legislative standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential

• 5 years’ experience and proven track record in battery pack integration within the automotive, mobility or motor sports industries.

• Degree in relevant engineering discipline (bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering)

• Good understanding of On-Vehicle networks.

• Understand HV Architecture, and system and harness diagrams, to be used during fault diagnosis.

• The ability to work flexibly to strict deadlines.

• Working knowledge of Vector tools including CANalyzer, CANape and CANoe

Preferred

• Experience with Electric Vehicles – HV charging, HV battery and HV powertrain systems

• Experience with Requirements Capture Tools, such as Siemens Polarion or IBM Rational Doors

• Understanding of functional Safety and ISO26262
