Position Summary: The role of this position is to support indigenous students in developing positive skills and strategies for engaging in the learning environment of the classroom.Counselor to provide direct services to students, staff, and the community, facilitating understanding, interpersonal relationships, problem solving and decision-making skills. In turn supporting individual responsibility in education, as well as career and vocational development. The goal of this position is to maximize student achievement through screening, assessment, individual and/or group support and/or skill building services and consultation for students with social emotional needs. This position will be key to our indigenous students’ ability to successfully engage in learning while at school. An essential skill in this role is the ability to raise awareness, foster appreciation, garner sensitivity for the traditions, values and customs of other races, religions, ethnicities, and nationalities, including Native Americans.
