The opportunity

Our US Gas Operations Mid-Atlantic Region PNGTS Area team is working to meet the needs of our business, and to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Maine and the surrounding areas.

We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems, reciprocating compressors, gas measurement facilities, and other related equipment.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

What you’ll do

  • Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and / or flags through the state one-call system
  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments
  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation
  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves
  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys
  • Operate company truck
  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
  • Complete work orders, generate gas handling plans, LOTO Equipment and pipeline segments for maintenance enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Operate compressor engine, auxiliary equipment, pipelines, and associated facilities in assigned area.
  • Analyze and determine if engines and equipment are operating properly.
  • Perform routine maintenance including lubricating as required, maintain proper oil and water levels, check temperatures for overheating, adjust equipment, take readings, and maintain logbook of readings and pressures.
  • Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls, to include heads, pistons, rings, liners, pins, bushings, and bearings
  • Maintain alertness for equipment failures and pressure changes.
  • Maintain clean engine room, wipe up all spills, mop, etc.
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure
  • LOTO experience
  • Gas Handling
  • Previous energy industry or related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of reciprocating compressors, turbines, and standby generators
  • Knowledge of regulators and / or meters
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and / or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (44 pounds), and cramped conditions
