Tasso is Hiring a Director of Software Development Engineering Near Seattle, WA

Location: Hybrid in Seattle, WA 

Who we are:

Tasso is a fast-growing startup that has developed a painless device to collect blood from people for at-home diagnostic testing. Tasso has strong partnerships with pharmaceutical companies, diagnostic testing labs, and healthcare systems that are looking to provide remote ways to access blood data. Tasso was founded with the mission of bringing diagnostics to the home with a device that could replace painful fingersticks or time-consuming lab visits. Since then, we have sold over 1 million devices, and have been used in pharmaceutical clinical trials, by Olympians as part of a new virtual anti-doping program, and broadly by virtual healthcare companies across the US.
We are looking for a Director of Software Development Engineering that will own development, delivery, and maintenance of customer facing software as well as hiring, management, and development of a high performing software development engineering team. An ideal candidate will have significant prior experience developing distributed systems software and managing software development teams. The position will report to the Chief Executive Officer. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with Tasso team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology, evaluate technical feasibility, and build high quality distributed systems software.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to product strategy, operational, and business goals.
  • Manage budget and budget planning for software team
  • Recruit, hire, and manage a software development engineering team(s).
  • Help ideate, build, and launch world class customer experiences.
  • Develop and maintain all customer facing and back-end software systems in support of the Tasso Care service offering.
  • Work directly with Tasso’s customers and partners as the subject matter expert for Tasso’s software
  • Institute and drive software development best practices.
  • Work in a dynamic, changing environment to deliver high quality software against aggressive schedules.
  • Ensure Tasso software development processes and products comply with necessary regulatory standards and security best practices.
  • Develop and maintain systems in accordance with regulatory guidelines, represent software as needed in external and internal audits
  • Own all design and architecture decisions, success of new product/feature launches, and uptime and maintenance of existing software.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, foreign equivalent, or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience developing software services and an understanding of design for security, scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience with a variety of modern programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Go, Python), open-source technologies (e.g., Linux, Docker), and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP).
  • 10 years of experience in designing and developing large-scale, distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services.
  • 5 years as a manager or director growing and managing small and large software engineering teams and launching software products.
  • Experience with healthcare regulations (e.g., FDA, HIPAA) and working with personal health information.
  • Experience communicating verbally and in writing with users, other technical teams and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy.
  • A deep understanding of professional software engineering best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing and operations.
 Job Requirements:
  • Hire, manage, and develop software engineers and software development managers.
  • Lead and coordinate design reviews.
  • Write code and individually contribute to software development goals when necessary.
  • Work with product managers and software engineers to determine product requirements, scope work, and estimate timelines.
  • Own full responsibility for the software development teams’ ability to hit timelines and achieve product goals.
  • Run daily standups and regular planning meetings as part of an agile/scrum development structure.
  • Maintain software uptimes and ensure the team can respond to any services outages within contractually defined response times.
  • Present and communicate with executive leadership team.
  • Ensure software development practices meet required healthcare regulations and security standards.
  • Participate in client product strategy and technical integration calls.
  • Coordinate with partners to ensure combined technical solutions meet or exceed the needs of the business.
  • Other tasks as necessary to the business as they arise.
