Reporting to the Director of TRIO Programs, The Instructional Associate – TRIO Upward Bound Programs is responsible for performing instructional tasks in the classroom in support of TRIO Programs. This position is also responsible for providing clerical support for the TRIO Upward Bound Programs, providing academic tutoring and instruction to program participants, and connecting them with various academic resources and college-wide services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts
  • Maintains and checks out academic support resources and equipment to students
  • Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids and materials
  • Maintains software on lab computers and liaison with Academic Computing for lab workstations
  • Monitors use of tutoring and other academic supports and prepares reports describing usage
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts
  • Delegates work duties to tutors and student assistants
  • Previews, orders, and maintains inventories of equipment, instructional materials, and supplies
  • Plans, prepares, develops, and maintains various teaching aids or materials
  • Researches equipment and academic resources for purchase
  • Provides in office clerical duties for program bids, purchases orders, and program recordkeeping for files
  • Documents and maintains advisory committee minutes
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations as assigned to support the essential performance requirements
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Director of TRIO Programs
  • Performs Other Related Tasks as Required

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements; or an equivalent combination of education and working experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience tutoring or teaching college-level courses in a community college or other higher education institution
  • Experience working with TRIO programs or other educational programs that serve and support first-generation, low-income, and/or underserved student populations
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish written and verbal communication
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the complexities faced by low-income, first-generation, and disabled students and adults
  • Knowledge of student academic and personal development
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships with diverse populations, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication
  • Skilled using computer applications and enterprise systems, including the Microsoft Office suite
  • Skilled in the design and implementation of programs that promote annual persistence and increased graduation rates of participants year over year
  • Skilled in providing academic tutoring and exam preparation for high school and/or college students
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse and urban
  • Ability to analyze data so as to provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting strong attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to perform, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks seamlessly with students, faculty, staff, and the community
