JOB DUTIES: Maintain and monitor equipment used to measure water levels on selected tribal ditches. Monitors head gates to both Indian and non-Indian ditches. Escorts non-Indian Majordomos to their head gates and ditches. Monitors and maintains ditches in specified geographic areas by performing inspections; cleaning debris from ditches, repairing and/or reporting damages done by rodents, users, or the public. Checks for leaks, clogs or any issues which would affect the efficiency of water supply for irrigation. Opens and closes main gates to regulate flow of water into the main canals based on irrigation needs. Monitors and records water use by tribal members to prevent waste. Control ditch flows to avoid overflows and to prevent flooding. Performs repairs and maintenance to tribal irrigation infrastructure. Schedule water use by tribal members. Maintain stream flow through village by regulating ditch levels. Monitors work activities along ditch ways and rehabilitation areas to protect cultural resources. Provides in-put on irrigation infrastructure assessments and planning for rehabilitation. Monitors and oversees rehabilitation and infrastructure restoration activities. Maintains list of fields planted in order to assist in determining irrigation requirements. Prepares or assists with the preparation of scheduled and/or ad hoc statistical and narrative reports; performs basic information gathering and analysis and/or forecasting, as specifically directed. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED and one year experience in farming, irrigation, recordkeeping and customer service. Valid New Mexico driver’s license with ability to meet Pueblo’s liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance. Personal owed vehicle is required. Must be able to pass drug test, physical examination and background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.
