TAOS PUEBLO CMS is Hiring a GAME WARDEN Near Taos, NM

JOB DUTIES: Enforces applicable tribal, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances related to tribal lands and natural resources. Patrols all areas within the exterior boundaries of the Taos Pueblo including wilderness area on horseback and/or vehicle to detect violators and enforce governing law and codes. Responds to calls for services and crimes in progress related to natural resources. Provides first aide and medical assistance to injured. Identifies, pursues, and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts against tribal lands and natural resources. Initiates action required to secure scene; administers emergency first aid as needed; conducts interviews of victims and witnesses; gathers evidence; arrests suspects; prepares incident and arrest reports. Serves warrants, makes arrests, and prepares and presents evidence in court actions. Obtain physical and documentary evidence, interview witnesses and suspects, prepares investigation reports, and testifies at hearing and trials. Patrols the Blue Lake Wilderness areas primarily and intermittently Tract A, Tract B, Karavas Tract, Ponce De Leon Hot Springs, and Taos Pueblo Ranch area. Conduct foot patrols within the primary areas, check gates and for any signs of poaching or trespassing. Responds to citizen and local law enforcement agencies’ requests for assistance on tribal land or for natural resource protection. Prepares and submits required reports, documents, daily and biweekly logs, incident reports as needed. Writes clear, concise, and comprehensive case and activity reports. May at times maintain tribal boundaries by mending broken fences, picking up and disposing trash on trails. Participates in search and rescue operations; operates all-terrain vehicles and related equipment. May assist public safety with patrols during events. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED. Certified Law Enforcement Officer; BIA or DPS Basic Certificate; NM waiver certificate. Basic Police Officer Training Program and Backcountry Tactics and Tracking Training Program certifications required. CPR and First Aid certification. Must be 21 years of age. One year law enforcement, security or game warden experience preferred. Must be able to camp for extended periods of time. Tiwa speaking preferred. Valid New Mexico driver’s license with ability to meet Pueblo’s liability insurance requirements and maintain eligibility for insurance. Must be able to pass drug test, physical and background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.
