The Nursing Technician performs basic nursing care and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Required Knowledge & Skills

Licenses and Certifications

  • HEALTHCARE PROVIDER (CPR)

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a practical nursing program or a student currently enrolled in a professional nursing program, or previous experience working with patients, or one quarter of clinical experience as a student nurse, or successful completion of a nurse aide course, or experience from a related health care field preferred
  • NOTE: BLS within 30 days

Functions

Area of Responsibilities

  • Respects patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Greets and regularly communications with patients, families, staff and physicians to assure VERY GOOD customer service. (1) As appropriate involves family significant other in treatment process (2) Serves as a patient advocate and assists the patient and family in meeting their identified needs.
  • Functions as a team player within the department, facility, and system. (1) Serves as a resource to other Nursing Technicians.
  • Maintains required knowledge training and functions within scope of practice. (1) Performs basic patient care attending to physical and emotional needs of the patient in a family oriented environment. (2) Documentation is in compliance with hospital policy and procedure and other regulatory agencies. (3) Effectively understands and operates basic equipment used routinely on the unit (EKG, VSM, Accucheck, etc.) (4) Demonstrates the ability to work safely and responsibly under general supervision. (5) Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of population(s) served. (6) Complies with standards set forth by The Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies. (7) Participates in Quality Improvement and other process(s) as requested.
  • Supports annual departmental, facility and system goals.

Compliance Statement

  • Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
