Job Summary

Job Summary: Job incumbent is responsible for the academic and vocational education of clients in the Graf Rheeneerhaanjii residential treatment facility. Job incumbent develops, oversees, and coordinates the day to day operations including, but not limited to individual educational assessment, educational planning, and intervention.
Adhere to the TCC Ch'eghwtsen' model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under direct supervision of the Graf Program Manager, job incumbent will:
1. Motivates and engage clients in meaningful educational or vocational activities.
2. Oversees the day-to-day operations of academic and vocational education components of service.
3. Develops policies, procedures or protocols to ensure the provision of quality educational service.
4. Provide individual educational assessments with clients; completed individual educational plans and academic intervention as needed.
5. Ensures educational services provided to clients are in accordance with ethical standards and are appropriate to identified educational needs.
6. Coordinates appropriate diagnostic testing as needed.
7. Assists clients with educational activities and the coordination of vocational training and/or higher education programs.
8. Coordinates vocational and job readiness assessments, job shadowing, supportive employment and community services opportunities for clients.
9. Monitors documented client progress with individual education plans. Share ongoing observations and progress with multi-disciplinary treatment team.
10. Provides individual educational assistance, conducts classroom sessions or coordinates educational program with correspondence, distance delivered, vocational or charter school.
11. Skill to ensure the completion of a full academic curricula including Life Skills, Health, and Physical Education. Staff are able to complete appropriate documentation according to policy.

Other Duties:
1. Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, Master’s degree preferred.
2. State of Alaska Teaching Certification; focus in secondary education preferred.
3. Twelve (12) semester hours of college credit in early childhood development, child development, child psychology or equivalent. College credit in management may substitute for three (3) of the twelve (12) required credit hours.
4. A combination of experience, education, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may substitute for degree requirements.
5. Must pass background check pursuant to the State of Alaska background check and federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to relate and positively interact with youth participating in residential behavioral health program;
2. Basic understanding of the development needs of FASD and youth and chemical dependence and its effects on adolescent development and school performance.
3. Strong verbal communication, analytical and interpersonal skills required.
4. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
5. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.
6. Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures and rural lifestyles required.

Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Supervision

Physical demands: Job incumbent needs dexterity for walking up/down stairs and housekeeping duties. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work effectively in a busy and often stressful environment.

Summation

Summation: Job incumbent must be available to work outside of traditional work hours due to 24 hours supervised housing program (hours worked may be day, evening, nights and weekends) must be able to work on short notice and in a sometimes stressful environment. Incumbent has daily contact with disabled clients – needs to be able to problem solve dilemmas and crisis and communicate effectively.
