TAMKO is Hiring a Production Technician - Starting Annual Salary $63k Near Knoxville, TN

TAMKO is seeking a Paper Mill Production Technician at our Knoxville, Tennessee facility. This position is responsible for operating and assisting in the paper mill processing facility, with additional responsibility for ensuring the safety and compliance of operations conducted at the plant, and the quality of material produced during their shift.
The starting hourly rate is between $27.72 - $35.60 per hour.

  • Work in and support a culture where safety incidents are unacceptable.
  • Learn and apply all safety, operational, and environmental policies; continuously and proactively learn new skills and processes.
  • Safely and efficiently operate, troubleshoot, maintain, inspect, disassemble, repair and reassemble machinery and equipment such as pumps, gear boxes and rolling stock.
  • Operate several types of industrial vehicles to include forklifts, skid steers, scissor lifts, boom sifts and a front-end loader.
  • Complete operator level equipment monitoring, cleaning and maintenance.
  • Cut and weld metal materials, i.e., stainless steel, cast iron, steel and aluminum.
  • Read and interpret blue prints and manuals.
  • Perform basic computer functions including the writing of work orders and cross-referencing stock room information and work effectively with web-based computer programs.
  • Receive and apply instruction from management, supervisors and peers.
  • Works rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Demonstrate progress and increasing proficiency in job tasks using written instructions and on-the-job training.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and/or verifiable manufacturing equipment experience is preferred
  • Experience with integrated production process and/or large-scale equipment in an industrial, warehouse, assembly or manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical/Electrical experience in an industrial environment
  • Supervisory experience is preferred
  • Experience with SAP, Lean, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management concepts, “web” processes (paper or fabrics), pulp and paper processes and/or steam systems are preferred
  • Capable of receiving and applying training to operate industrial vehicles to include forklifts, skid steers, scissors lifts, boom lifts and a front-end loader
  • Must be 100% compliant with all safety, environmental and operational policies while working independently with little supervisory oversight
  • Able to understand and apply safety, environmental, ethics, business and operational training
  • Able to read, understand, and comply with Standard Operating Procedures, equipment manuals and operational checklists
  • Able to quickly learn to operate, trouble-shoot, maintain, repair and improve large industrial equipment using Human-Machine Interface (HMI) computers and common equipment controls
  • Able to learn basic statistical theories in order to monitor and control industrial processes, including variation, statistical control, process measurement and statistical significance.
  • Able to efficiently work with web based computer programs and integrated production management and tracking software
  • Able to prioritize job demands in order to minimize downtime and waste
  • Paper mill maintenance and operations knowledge beneficial

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and/or precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat, and confined spaces. A respirator may be required at times. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • The employee must be able to position self to operate, inspect, maintain, and repair all machinery and equipment on plant floor. This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, and/or stooping.
