TAMKO is Hiring an Instrumentation Technician Near Dallas, TX

We are seeking an innovative, self-directed, ideal team player. This individual can identify and prioritize, within a team, the workload, and resources necessary to resolve problems and continually improve production lines in an asphalt roofing manufacturing facility. This well compensated hourly position is part of the Engineering Department. The incumbent will work rotating day/night 12-hr shifts, additional extended hours compensated may occasionally be available or required. Other duties may also be assigned.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Executes and participates in the execution and improvement of plant safety and environmental programs.
  • Provides plant operational support on a cross-functional shift team to support line waste, uptime and run rate goals.
  • Is the lead, technical expert on the high-level equipment processes and their electrical sub-components (sensors, motors, drives, etc.) on their shift.
  • Works together with shift industrial technician and operation lead to identify and troubleshoot process issues.
  • Supports and participates in line operation and quality tests when needed.
  • Excels in radio/face-to-face communication along with larger audience communication through computer applications in regard to work status, troubleshooting steps, resolutions, follow up tasks required, etc.
  • Performs planned work on shift basis, prioritizing the work alongside other designated tasks and line calls.
  • Identifies parts needed for electrical maintenance and repair projects and appropriately withdraws these parts from the parts room for line calls and planned maintenance.
  • Performs electrical repairs on various types of electrical equipment per standard work plans, manuals, etc. Participates in the improvement of this documentation.
  • Selects, installs, configures, and calibrates instruments and devices.
  • Tests equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Programs new plant equipment or modifies existing programs as directed.
  • Trains plant personnel on new systems and updates LOTO and SOP information.
  • Operates various shop equipment to install/program equipment.
  • Uses electrical hand tools, voltage and amperage measuring and recording devices, HART communicators, and other technical equipment to facilitate efficient troubleshooting and work completion. Either uses PLCs to aid in troubleshooting or is developing skills to do so.
  • Bends, hangs, and runs conduit where needed. Pulls electrical cable and wire in conduit. Transports and stacks conduit and electrical wire as needed.
  • Works with all plant personnel on continuous improvement of all plant equipment, documentation, and processes.
  • Executes training, self-based or guided, on time to continually improve skills.
  • Executes and takes ownership in plant 5S programs and housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience with high school diploma or GED OR
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience with an associate degree.

Preferred Experience – Not required for application but will benefit consideration:

  • Experience with process control and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in roofing manufacturing or web process handling or other processes that integrate multiple pieces of equipment.
  • Siemens and Allen Bradely PLC experience.
  • NEC, and Electrical Distribution Knowledge and Experience.

  • Work duties will be divided between an office environment and the production floor. Employee will be required to wear all plant-mandatory PPE when on production floor, including: hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, ear protection,
  • Safety is a Top Priority – Employee is responsible not only for his/her safety but also for the safety of peers.
  • Production facility is a 24/7 operation, and as such, the role may require occasional extended-hour days to aide in troubleshooting, project implementation and/or training.
  • Production facility is prone to temperature fluctuations according to ambient seasonal changes.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to position himself/herself to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and/or or maintain heavy plant equipment. This may require climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, and/or stooping. The employee must be able to inspect equipment and detect equipment malfunctions, as well as utilize tools to repair and maintain equipment.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • This job is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes, odors or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme heat, vibration and confined spaces. The employee is occasionally exposed to acidic or caustic chemicals. A respirator may be required at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, with hearing protection provided.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical systems and around/near energized electrical systems while following necessary safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
