Primary purpose:

The primary responsibility of this individual will be to provide Instrumentation and Control System support for the Company's Ammonia Production and CO2 Removal initiatives. The individual will evaluate ammonia production technologies, lead/review PDP packages, FEED studies, and oversee detailed process design till commissioning and start-up.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • The Lead I&C Engineer will lead the design team throughout the Engineering/design, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) process, adapting I&C plans according to the assigned budget, schedule, engineering/design standards, and client requirements.
  • Responsible for leading early process studies, technology evaluations and overall project development initiatives through application of experience in process design and technology implementation, with specific focus on the Syn gas, CO2 removal and Ammonia industry.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating the technical process activities associated with assigned projects, technologies and/or clients.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to other engineers or project staff as assigned to support the process engineering efforts of major process facility projects.
  • Manage client and team relationships on multiple assigned projects to help ensure that the process design basis (PDP) is technically sound and meets the client project objectives. Provide technical oversight of assigned projects from early Front-End Planning (FEP) through detailed design and construction.
  • Plan, organize and direct the execution of feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and conceptual designs s required to support client projects or initiatives.
  • Actively maintain current knowledge and understanding of market trends, and technologies. Provide periodic updates to division management in support of strategic initiatives, as well as marketing and sales efforts.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients.
  • Identify opportunities and support business development efforts to prepare submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, and related activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and representation of the company through active participation in conferences and technical seminars, including activities such as writing papers, delivering presentations and/or supporting conference marketing initiatives and events.
  • Participate in sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.
  • Manage and support the quality review process for assigned projects, including the feasibility or soundness of proposed plans.
  • Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.
  • Manage work activities of technical personnel in the production of process engineering deliverables.
  • Lead the production of instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including Instrument Index, Instrument Data Sheets, Instrument Installation Details, Instrument Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams.
  • Lead the production of control systems (DCS and/or PLC) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Data Sheets.
  • Lead the production of controls design deliverables, including I/O list, Process Control Narratives, Graphic Sketches, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Alarm Rationalization, and manage third-party control system suppliers to comply with the control system design requirements, including participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Lead the production of I&C purchase specifications, review bids, make technical recommendations and manage the overall purchase, review of I&C packages, and review of vendor documentation.
  • Manage the development of P&IDs for various projects.
  • Determine process measurement protocols, such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, and control valves. Utilize knowledge of various technologies for selecting the appropriate I&C application.
  • Lead production of preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, controls valves, relief valves, and thermowells.
  • Develop level sketches in conjunction with multiple departments.
  • Responsible for applying knowledge of commonly used I&C engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and project site safety policies.
  • Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software.
  • Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
  • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
  • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
  • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Instrumentation and Controls Systems Engineering or Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • 15 years of engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred and minimum 15 years of relevant industrial experience in controls and automation engineering

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
  • Must possess a valid PE license from any state in USA.
  • Knowledge of industry's regulatory compliance issues and standards.

  • Experience acting as owners engineer for large scale facilities through the life of the project.
  • The individual must possess the ability to associate and communicate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Essentially indoors but must be able to work outdoors in project & maintenance activities.
  • Travel from 20% of time to engineering offices, field sites and company offices with occasional overnight stays.
  • May be required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Master of Science degree in I&CS Engineering a plus.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
