Primary purpose:

The individual will work within the Asset Integrity Engineering department in support of multiple engineering projects. This will include supporting improvement of internal and external corrosion programs. Also, will focus on developing and executing standards associated with new PHMSA gas and liquid mega rules. Additionally, this person will support integrity O&M high consequence area assessment projects, review pipeline repair documentation, and assist with other pipeline and facility integrity management program items. The individual must possess the ability to associate and communicate with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism. This is a temporary full-time position.

Internship Overview:

While this internship is largely about supporting the Asset Integrity Engineering group, equally important is the expectation for the selected candidate to gain exposure and experience in an opportunity rich industry. In doing this, the selected candidate will be learning this industry from a unique position which will require contact with various parts of the company. This internship also comes with the following advantages:

The anticipated start date of this internship will begin in May or June,with a full-timework schedule commitment during the summer.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with and learn from several different departments including: Asset Integrity, Corrosion, Field Engineering, Project Management, Technical Services and Field Operations.
  • Assist in Risk data integration.
  • Aid in Corrosion control program improvement, including develop knowledge of external and internal corrosion control and theory.
  • Enter historical data into corrosion control database and develop ability to run reports for compliance progress and tracking.
  • Identify internal corrosion data using Pi data link and support internal corrosion program improvements.
  • Assist corrosion engineers with field survey and data collection.
  • Maximum allowable operating pressure (MAOP) reconfirmation project and records research support and project scoping.
  • Pipeline Material Verification program support and data review.
  • Review pipeline examination reports for proper repair documentation and remaining strength calculations using rstreng.
  • Develop understanding of pipeline fracture mechanics, remaining strength and repair practices.
  • Develop understanding of pipeline integrity management programs for facilities, liquid and gas pipelines.
  • Effectively prioritize workload between several projects.
  • Write effectively and understand verbal and written communications.
  • Promote the Company’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a consistently high-level of performance.
  • Will work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Other daily, weekly, monthly or special project duties as identified and defined.

Minimum requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Student actively enrolled in an approved Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering program with expected graduation date of December 2023, May 2024, December 2024 or May 2025.

Experience/Specific Knowledge:

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications that may include but are not limited to Excel, Word, Access, Visual Basic, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

 Competencies, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedule, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to take on additional tasks and shift priorities on short notice.

  • The employee is regularly required to use hands to type, touch, handle, or feel. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

 Working Conditions:

  • Essentially indoors but must be able to work outdoors in project & maintenance activities.
  • Travel from 5-10% of time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None.

 PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:

  • Strong computer background including programming proficiency.
  • Knowledge of internal and external corrosion on pipelines.
  • Knowledge of pipeline integrity management.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics.
  • Competence in technical writing and review of regulations for compliance
