Job Description

The Resident Assistant position for the Lake Tahoe site at the University of Nevada, Reno is viewed as a means of supporting one’s education. These Resident Assistants are trained undergraduate student staff who live in the residence halls to assist students with acclimating to the environment at the Lake Tahoe site, building a positive community, and help promote student learning inside and outside the classroom. Few student positions provide a better opportunity for experience in leadership and human relations.

Resident Assistants fulfill many roles on their floors, in their residence hall, and in the Residential Life department. A Resident Assistant’s helpfulness, empathy, interest, and concern will be seen as a reflection of the spirit of cooperation among the residents. As a role model, Resident Assistants have the responsibility to portray a positive image and attitude. A Resident Assistant’s presence in the hall as a mature, responsible student and adult is the central point around which all other facets of the job revolve. 

The Resident Assistant position is a paraprofessional position within the Student Services Division and it is expected that each individual will support the Commitment to Inclusion and the Vision, Mission, Values, and Equity Statement of the Department of Residential Life, Housing and Food Service.

Lastly, the position of a Resident Assistant is a job and should be prioritized as such.

Responsibilities

Resident Assistants perform a variety of tasks within the broad categories listed below:

  • Community Engagement & Development Duty & On-Call Responsibilities

  • Emergency Response

  • Communication Pack Living Experience Meetings and Administrative Duties

  • Other tasks may be assigned that are not included in this description
