The Director, Business Partner will collaborate with its functional leaders to identify, qualify, and drive the adoption of technology solutions that achieve business operational outcomes and strategic goals. The Director will coordinate across various shared services groups within IT and other functions to successfully align, integrate, and enable new capabilities for Otsuka and our affiliates. The Business Partner core responsibilities include:

  • Business Relationship Management

The Director, Business Partner will collaborate with its functional leaders to identify, qualify, and drive the adoption of technology solutions that achieve business operational outcomes and strategic goals. The Director will coordinate across various shared services groups within IT and other functions to successfully align, integrate, and enable new capabilities for Otsuka and our affiliates.

Core Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Business Relationship Management: Collaborate and partner with the business to enable and support strategic programs and projects. Manage business expectations and alignment to business requirements. Assume accountability for all aspects of IT planning and delivery. Provide ongoing feedback to continuously improve the IT operating model.

  • Business Process and Technology Strategist: Define the technology strategy for their business functional areas in alignment with strategic business goals and objectives. Understand their ‘market’, the leading technology providers and how to apply the appropriate technology. Develop a business aligned IT strategy and roadmap that addresses operational contingencies. Identify technology opportunities to address process ‘pain points’, enable leading practices and technology-enabled improvement opportunities. Build business case for implementation IT initiatives. Create and own appropriate business-aligned implementation plans, roadmaps – timelines, ownership roles, milestones, etc.

  • Portfolio Advisor and Management: Define (in partnership with the business) IT priorities for the business and associated technology investments. Manage IT portfolio for the assigned business functions including portfolio creation, IT budget forecast and be accountable for financial outcomes. Inform and influence business strategies bringing current knowledge and future vision of technology and systems for competitive advantage.

  • IT Connector: Understand who to engage for internal IT products/services to achieve business value. Know IT strategic platforms and drive business partners towards ‘standard’ platform solutions. Create SLAs within IT in support of the business (where appropriate). Provide business updates on new IT products/services.

  • Vendor Management: Lead vendor and partner evaluation, selection, and management for assigned areas, working with IT Vendor Management team for assigned services and projects. 

  • Career Developer: Provide mentoring, coaching, and professional direction to both direct reports and others. Build and actively drive an environment for a well-balanced, healthy and prosperous career

Qualifications

Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years of Life Sciences experience required, with 5 years in supporting specific function area(s) in an IT customer facing role.

  • Insights and knowledge of leading technology trends and best practices which are improving the processes and strategic decision making in supported areas.

  • Working knowledge of key processes within the relevant business area and various regulations governing the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Broad business and IT capability awareness with hands on experience using or implementing functional area specific applications.

  • Experience working with globally distributed business and IT teams, especially in Japan, EU and India.

  • Superior presentation skills with the ability to influence, drive action and strategy including ability to effectively interface with all levels including senior leadership with demonstrated executive presence.

  • Organizational change management, issues & conflict management, business-technology innovation and transformation experience.

  • Multiple success in delivering new capabilities using system development life cycle (SDLC) practices and managing a complex portfolio using portfolio and project management (PPM) methodologies.

  • Up to 20% travel is required, based upon business needs

Educational Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; preferably, a degree in Computer Science, Engineering or adjacent fields. Advanced degree in in sciences, business administration, or pharmaceuticals is optimal.
