Talent Strategy is Hiring a Paving Technician Near Chesapeake, VA

Position: Paving Mechanic

Pay: $28/hour - $34/hour

Shift: 1st

Location: Chesapeake, VA

Company Vehicle Provided (1-2 hour travel radius)

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the optimal performance and safety of production equipment through timely repair and maintenance to meet production and quality targets.
  • Provide technical support to equipment technicians and service personnel via phone, email, or on-site assistance.
  • Establish efficient communication channels with field personnel and dispatch for prompt resolution of issues.
  • Maintain repair quality standards to minimize rework and recalls.
  • Adhere to governmental and company safety policies and Human Resources guidelines.
  • Evaluate shop tool requirements to enhance work efficiency.
  • Identify and report deficiencies to improve preventive maintenance programs.
  • Engage in technical training sessions provided by dealers/manufacturers and share acquired knowledge with fellow mechanics.
  • Collaborate closely with Field Services Dispatcher and parts personnel to ensure timely parts delivery.
  • Interact daily with internal departments, Field Managers, Superintendents, and Field Mechanics. Fulfill hourly position requirements, including overtime when necessary.
  • Possess adequate tools for job tasks; the company does not provide standard tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of service truck.
  • Ensure compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and Trimble/Telogis guidelines.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned, accommodating individuals with disabilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of field experience in repairing heavy construction equipment.
  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in all aspects of heavy construction machinery, including diesel engines, power transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong diagnostic abilities in hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems of modern construction equipment.
  • Capable of making repair decisions promptly and logically while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Skillful in scheduling, recommending machinery for repair, and managing parts orders.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize safety.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changes in technology and processes.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar Et/SIS, Volvo Prosis/tech tool, Cummins InSite, and basic OXY/Acetylene torch and Stick Welding 7018,6010 techniques
