Location: Taconic Biosciences is seeking a Buyer to join our dedicated Procurement team in this remote position. This position works primarily remote (90%) with ad hoc needs to visit our US sites. Qualified candidates will be based in the continental U.S. and should reside in the northeast region.
The Pay Range: $63,000 - $70,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, geographic location, experience, training, education, and local market conditions, with this the upper end of the range is not always likely to be offered.

The Role:
As a Buyer at Taconic, you'll play a crucial role in our procurement process. You'll be responsible for evaluating Purchase Requisitions, converting them into Purchase Orders, and coordinating with suppliers to ensure timely fulfillment. Your role will involve managing freight and delivery logistics, ensuring seamless communication with requisitioners. Your problem-solving skills will be essential as you navigate interactions with various departments, suppliers, and logistics partners. Additionally, you'll be at the forefront of Taconic's procurement strategy, driving it towards excellence by identifying and qualifying alternate supply sources and fostering improvement initiatives with current suppliers.

In steering Taconic's procurement strategy, the Buyer is entrusted with driving it towards excellence, aiming for Best-in-Class standards through a relentless pursuit of supply-base enhancement. This involves proactively identifying and qualifying alternate supply sources, as well as fostering ongoing improvement initiatives with current suppliers.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets.
  • Support the purchasing function and other relevant departments and communicate any supply problems which may impact business operations.
  • Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes, new projects, and activities.
  • Monitor and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the business.
  • Provide analysis of costs, new and existing, and review cost reduction activities.
  • Prepare reports and updates as needed.
  • Work closely with others in the procurement function, review opportunities for continuous improvement, and business improvements.
  • Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff, and visitors.
  • Negotiate contracts, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers, and review opportunities to make business savings utilizing negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
  • Build, maintain, and manage supplier relationships. Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures.
  • Compile data relating to supplier performance to enable evaluation.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and contribute to performance reviews to ensure contract compliance.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, accounting, or a related field preferred; or equivalent technical/managerial experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience relevant to this position.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new applications as needed.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems such as Oracle or SAP required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to actively listen and understand information presented and different viewpoints.
  • Ability to write reports and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Capability to interpret various documents and solve problems in non-standard situations.
  • Requires judgment in applying guidelines to specific cases or issues.
Travel:
Occasional travel is required, generally 2-5 trips each year.
